SCV8 Slips a Year
Championship now targeted for 2005
It was close but no banana for SCV8 in 2004. The saloon car series which was to feature standard 550bhp, V8 powered cars in a variety of bodyshells has delayed its first full season of racing until 2005.
A statement by the directors - Andy Rouse, Pete Hall and Roger Etcell - of the venture was issued today: "Whilst we have reached 90% of our targets and the elements and criteria required to launch the new series, the final 10% has proved difficult to conclude in time for a sensible and productive start to the Championship for this year.”
“ However, a recent series of further industry barriers were creating difficulties in concluding the calendar for this season and u ntil last week we remained on target for a shorter series than originally planned, starting in August. However, there is now much turmoil due to the prolonged Brands Hatch circuits sale and the new owners attempts to bring promoted events back to a stable footing, much of which is well documented in recent media articles."
"The timing just isn't right.” they concluded.
The plan is now to kick off in 2005 with a 10 event series (2 rounds at each event). The promotors of the series are keen to point out that this isn't the end of the venture by any means.
Support for the series has been strong with support from six manufacturers, TV production companies, the BRDC and the MSA.
