Stolen afternoon of long forgotten pleasure....

Absolutely beautiful day today, dry, crisp, sunshine.... looks like spring may have finally arived. Not driven the Cerb since the December TVR meet when it started to snow! (unless 3 urban miles between Christmas and New Year count...) so thought "sod this" and decided to take the afternoon off work. 
After three long months of snow, salt, slimy roads, work commitments, busy weekends I've really missed driving the TVR. There was a flutter of excitement as I opened up the garage door, the anticipation building as I unhooked the battery charger - she started first prod! God I've missed that sound!
Trickling through town, slowly getting everything all warmed up, you forget how much attention a TVR attracts even in stop start traffic amongst all the anononous hatchbacks and rep-mobiles...... then once out into the open roads started to feed in the power - flippin' eck these things are quick! And I'm only using part throttle.... After a good few miles on familiar roads, start to ease into faster cornering (feeling for grip levels as there's still a white salt sheen on the road, and damp patches in the shaddows under trees etc), front end grips and turns with what seems like lightening reactions after months of driving "normal" cars through winter. Get the back starting to settle and move under the throttle loads - so this is what "seat of the pants" driving sensations are like after 100's miles of sanitised filtered "feedback" from other cars. Get the back moving out when pulling out from junctions (only a little, I'm not a hooligan...;) ), start to get more adventuous with the right foot..... Good grief I'd forgotten how b
y fast they are - hang about, what's that - there's still about another inch of throttle travel? I'm not at full chat yet! Next few miles sees a few oportunities to "give it the full beans" - heart rate pounding, adrenalin dumped into the system, My God the Cerb is a fast car!
Get back home, wash the car, try to do some work but my hearts just not in it today. The temptation is drawing me back out. What the hell, it's Friday, award myself an afternoon off. My young lad is begging "please can I go out in the sportscar Dad?" and who am I to deny him that basic right? Child seat in front seat (he loves it when there's just the two of us in it), "overtake that car in front Dad" - OK then, since you insist... Taking it MUCH easier, out to Monsal Head (Derbyshire beauty spot with car park with fantastic views) just to get an ice cream for him and a cuppa tea for me.
Bliss.

And I tried to race Mike in my Discovery today - he overtook me up the road from my house.
It was great to see a Cerb out and going for it but it made me very very very keen to get mine back from garage and back onto the road. Hopefully my engine will start to go back together next week and I can be back on the road in a week or so....

I too couldn't resist getting back behind the wheel of the TVR in the last couple of days. It's still bloody freezing up here but I was fed up driving the Pick-up.
So I did a run to work yesterday and today with the roof off until my extremities started threatening to fall off.
It's great to take the twisty rtoads just to have an excuse to pass things and hear the roar again.
