Corvette generations
Discussion
There were several C1's. The 1953-1955 had the single, mesh-covered headlamps and a raised round rear light on a mini-fin. It also had no coves on the sides. The 1956-7 Corvette had a single Ferrari-esque headlamp and the teardrop rear lamps and the distinctive coving along the sides. The 1958-60 had the twin headlamps and the front part of the cove had a cover and strakes. The 1961-62 replaced these strakes with vents and had the hallmark Vette 4 round rear lamps. The grille lost the floating tooth look and became a normal grille, silver in 1961 and black in 1962. The 1962 was the first year the Vette got a V8.
the 1963 was the only year that shape had the split window and that shape ran to 1967. The C3 arrived in 1968 and went through subtle changes to encompass safety bumper regulations and ran to 1982.
There was no Vette in 1983. The C4 was launched in 1984 with the less than overwhelming Crossfire engine. The 1985 remedied the deficiences. This shape ran to 1996 with the C5 being launched for 1997.
