With the facelift Elise coming who's clearing out the old model Elise S at a tempting price, anyone spotted a bargain?

With the current state of the pound, a lot of specialist UK cars are being exported.

As I've always said you pay peanut's you get monkeys!

Why would anyone sell an Elise cheap? If it’s cheap then it’s cheap for a reason, I wouldn’t sell my Car cheap! I’d rather just keep it and buy another car as well, it will go up in value in the end

You might get a bit of a discount on a new car but I wouldn't think 1000's, Elise S1 & S2's will go up in value now as they are about to become classic's

You've got to remember your not talking about a mass produced car, how often do you see an Elise on the Road? Once a week if your very lucky, how often do you see a Porsche or a Bmw?

I couldn't count on both hand's walking out during my lunch hour

Quite. The only 'bargains' are if you're paid in a different currency. The pound is so incredibly weak that a toppy Lotus looks cheap to everyone else... frown

I've had to consider selling mine recently so i've had an eye on prices. (maybe not as closely as some, admittedly).

I did notice that a couple of months back the cheapest early S2's were going for around £9.5k. There's now very similar if not worse (older/higher milegae/lower spec) cars going for £10.5k at the cheapest. I guess that's seasonal variation but i didn't expect to see a 10% increase in prices from one month to the next.

(apologies if not relevant as I know the questions was about much newer models)

If you know someone, or have been affected by someone, who needs a punch in the face, People who need a punch in the face affect the lives of many, There is still no known cure for someone who deserves a punch in the face, except a punch in the face, but we can raise awareness...

Because they need a quick sale. There's always someone moving house or having a baby. Sometimes they simply misjudge the Market value of their car - that's how I got my Elise. If you don't get sentimental and hang onto them too long you can sell on at a profit. Free motoring. As with any other car, bargain Elises do come up but they don't hang around long.

Even the VX220 seems to have gone up over the last year, its only repaired write offs that are cheap.

I don't think the S2 will be 'classic' the S1 yes. I think it will be more like the mk1 golf over the mk2, not many looking for mk2. And I think given the number of S2 made it will be a long time till they reach that status. IMO

Sometimes, people get shafted by their ex-wives during divorces. In order to reduce the amount of settlement they have to give to their money grabbing ex bhes they will sell a car cheaply just to spurn them.

Hoping to grab a bargain because someone is in a lower financial situation to the one which you are in currently, I'd call that pulling someone's pant's down.

I'm not saying that you should pay any more than a car's worth because the seller is a nice Pearson, I'm simply saying you should expect to pay market rate.

I had some dreamer turn up to buy one of my old cars (06 Porsche Cayman S), I picked him up from my local train station as he was from Piston Heads so I assumed he was a fellow enthusiast, he got into the Car and started telling me how he lived in Frankfurt and travelled all over Europe to buy premium cars, Rolls Royce drop head, Ferrari’s, Lambo’s, etc etc etc, he then hinted at a figure of 25k even thou I’d already stated the car was for sale at 28k, I’m not sure if he realised but he came very close to being dropped off on the M25 or Knocked out

I don’t like people who take liberties, a responsible bid fair play

I agree, but I was talking about the situation where a £28k car is (for whatever reason) advertised at £25k. The buyer can hardly be accused of taking liberties. If that's all the seller wants, that's all the buyer needs to pay. The motivations behind the seller's decision to advertise at that price are, frankly, none of the buyer's business.

Conversely, turning up to buy a £28k car with only £25k in your pocket could be seen as optimistic (although hardly grounds for getting 'knocked out') but I think most buyers and sellers would expect there to be some negotiation on a 'market value' asking price.

You'd attack someone for offering a low amount for something you are selling???

I hope you never go near ebay.
