Found a Mustang Boss 351 (330 Bhp) 1971 one owner from new. Like it. Buy or not to buy. I don't know. The car is overseas. Worried about transport and importation costs. Anyone had that kind of experience ?

Are you sure you want an American steamer?

Plot, it's not too much. Hmmm, i am getting too interested now.
Thom, that steamer makes 0-60 in 6 sec. And remembers me when i was a kid wanting too bad one like this. One more thing, here in maccheroniland 30 yr. old car is on the limit for taxes. Now I want it bad.
Don't worry I am an lotus-like or tvr-like car fan. But Boss is an icon.
If they only give me the price now...i am waiting for that.

Go for it, if you have the money. Yank cars are highly individual, if a little low quality in places. I wish I'd bought that Buick - except when I'm filling up of course !!!!!

I occasionally think about getting a muscle car (too much Dukes of Hazzard on Sky). You might want to look at ...

www.sells.freeserve.co.uk/

... a second generation Pontiac Firebird. Get a nice one with a Shelby stripe, rip out the interior, put in a roll cage and some bucket seats and then replace the iron engine with a nice 484 7.7 litre V8 with big carbs and Nitrous (and make it shiny to look like the one from Dukes of Hazzard). Stiff shocks, some 9 inch wide wheels and a straight through exhaust.

Shouldn't cost too much and will create some interest when rolling down the local high street.

That maybe so, but remember that it handles like a pig on stilts, so you will have to slow down so much for the corners, you may as well be in a stanard euro box.
I speak from personal experience, I had a 1970 fast back pony with a 302, in bright orange with black vinyl interior, lovely car, real head turner, plough furrows in the tarmac in a straight line, almost fatal at every bend.

I was (before I bought my Mustang from Surrey!) interested in importing a 1965 Ford Thunderbird from the States. Wonderful price for a beautiful car.

If at all possible, I would fly to the States and see it, you won't regret it. You could get a shipping co to put it on the boat for you but there's no fun in that.

Cost for New York to S'ton about £850 I think, ro-ro not container. Choice is yours.

I think the taxes payable this end put me off. Not only do you pay the percentage on the bought price but also on the bloody shipping costs!!

Would have been a lot of hassle but a bit of an adventure. Often think about the car even now.

It probably doesn't help much in this case but you only pay import duties into the uk if you have owned the vehicle abroad for less than 6 months

So buy it, store it for 6 months then ship it back to the UK

Thanks all for the interest.

Price that they are asking is reasonable, let's say around 20K. Fatboy, same idea I had today, i should store it there and then, with calm, bring baby here because transportation costs and taxes are high. Data confirmed, one owner, NEVER repainted either, original decals, even in the boot and engine bay. VIN matches. 90K miles. For cleveland 351 it's nothing (confirmed from my muscle engine specialist).

... but obviously you need an address (and thus a residency permit) in the country of origin in order to 'buy' the car there. Not a problem in Europe (we are all one love, right?) but trickier in the US.
