Just wondering who has experience of putting really big mileage on a Porsche?

My own record in a car is 225k in an Audi 80, which was still going well when I sold it and I've run high milers as my main car for a few years now - a 135k 2.7T Allroad being my current car.

What I'm thinking is of reversing this way of working and buying a lower mileage main car and replacing my low mileage Cayman S with an older high mileage car that has been well maintained.

And I suppose that one frees up some cash in the process?

I remember reading about an 911SC owner covering something like 350K with no major problems.

I think there was a 944 in P&911 World a year or so ago that had done 350k miles

Not really - I'm looking at an S6 Avant as my newer car.

It would be very interesting to know the highest mileage covered in a 996 C2/C4. The oldest is now 12 years so there must be some high milers out there?

I have found that high mileage cars are as good or better than low mileage as long as they are serviced and driven well. For example my Audi a4 130 tdi sport has covered 190,000 miles and has never broken down. I service it by the book and apart from the usual service parts it has had its first replacement clutch and mass flywheel at 185,000 miles and a new thermostat that's it.I believe the same to be true for Porsche i bought a high mileage gt2 that's done 70,000 miles and it still has the original Porsche ceramic brake disks in good condition.I have had the Porsche for two years and only replaced the radiators which is a common problem for any 996 regardless of mileage(i have it serviced twice a year). My advise would be by a high mileage one owner car with full service history for you main car and a high mileage one owner car with full service history for your second car.

278000 miles in my Toyota HiAce van before selling it on. God knows how many miles it did before it died - it was in perfect nick when I sold it (abou 10 years ago)!

I had a 3.2 that had done 147k when I sold it, not had an engine rebuild at that time, had a clutch and rebuild of the 915. Engine was going strong.

I brought in a 3.2 for service from a customer who lived around the corner from my house, it's done 232,000 from new with no rebuild yet and the week before I collected he'd been having track tuition in it at Silverstone.

Finally a GT2 with more miles than mine biggrin

Mine's done 60,500 miles and still has the original ceramics. Just picked it up today from a major service and it feels fresher than some newer cars I've driven.

Just passed 230K on my 944T. Just onto its third clutch but I expect that to last another 100K+.
Drives well and uses very little oil. I like it smile

If it is the one I am thinking of then I recall it had a complete engine rebuild, retrim, respray and all manner of expensive repairs carried out at an OPC throughout it's life. The owner used it as a daily driver but spent a smalll fortune on keeping it in tip top condition.

LHD 928 GT - before it became a race car had 350,000km on the original engine with no wear or anything. Used for commuting between Hamburg and Koln... Full Porsche Service History - for those who know German Porsche Zentrums - it actually means something...

My old SC race car had been such for many years, speedo never worked whilst I had it and no reason to believe it had worked for years previously - the reading was 192k. Not got a clue what's on the current one, will try and remember to look at the number but it also doesn't work.

I do have a 1993 BMW 525tds with over 300,000 miles on it. I took it in PX 3 years ago from a guy who'd commuted 50 miles each way every weekday for about 10 years. He'd had it from 60k until 283k and only ever replaced the front discs once. Body's a little tired, but interior and mechanically pretty much perfect (not even the usual worn armrest, on account of him having protected this with a (Hugo Boss) sock!)

Touching on these Ceramics again.

Do you guys give them a good hammering most of the time or is it mainly normal driving like you would with your granny in the car wink

(not that mine could get in my old one) hehe

Thanks
