I read this morning that police are wanting information about a vehicle shown in CCTV footage relating to the disappearance of York Chef Claudia Lawrence.

However they make no mention of what type of car it is, so I wondered if the collective minds of this forum could try and work it out from the blurry shot shown on this page:

http://www.yorkpress.co.uk/news/5027616.Police_rel...

(Click to the third image with car with headlights on)

Perhaps if there is a consensus, one person could ring and offer the information on the type of car? Or perhaps the Police already know what type of car it might be but aren't saying because they don't know for sure. Anyway, I thought it might be worth a try.

Looks like a saloon to me, rather than a hatchback.

Could be an Alfa 156.

How about Audi A4 - http://pictures2.autotrader.co.uk/imgser-uk/servle...

I know it's a bit of hassle but it would really help if people could post a pic of the car they mean from autotrader etc. for comparison purposes.

Looks like that configuration to me. Something long but with 2 doors rather than 4.

No spoiler though so seems to rule out Skylines. Could it be a Merc Coupe?

Its a guess as the image is so stty, but the size and shape of the car are E36 BMW. The rear window is a coupe window, and there appear to be the same swage line on the rear bumper as the E36.

I'm wondering if the car has quite a high ground clearance. There is a light area to the left of the rear wheel. Is that bodywork or is it light from the road?

All the silver E36's on Autotrader seem to have a black strip on the door. Wouldn't that show up in the pic?

Audi A4 is the first thing that springs to mind when I look at that pic.

Just shows that some CCTV cameras are far too low quality to be a real help solving crime.

I don't think it's a soarer. Front wheel too far away from the mirror, which doesn't stick out enough.

E36 coupe is nearest so far. And common too.
