screaming brakes !!!!!!!!

hi, i recently put new brakes on my cerb, discs, pads, hoses, the lot, read through a few posts on here n went for m1144 pads, got to say the car now stops fantastic, but the noise is horrible ! they screech n squeel like a pig ! is there anything i can do/use to reduce this noise as it is ruining the driving experience ??? please help ! or do i scrap the pads n go back to standard ?

May be the pads have become glazed you could try taking them out and give them a light sanding with sand paper to rough them up, also some copper slip on the back of the pads or shims if fitted will help.

Some pads I've used have a very high metal content, which causes the noise (Pagid and Ferodo DS3000), but I'd be surprised if this were the case here, as the 1144's are Mintex's entry level pad. Maybe another Mintex user could comment, but when I used them on my Wedge probably 15 years ago, there were no noise problems. How many miles have you done on them- are they fully bedded in yet?

I have 1144's on the front of my 'S' and there's no noise at all. I did, however, have them on a Clio 182 a few years back and I seem to remember that they squeeled until thay day I sold it some 10,000 miles later... I guess it's the luck of the draw!

Oh, i was under the impression all cerb brakes squealed!!

Nope, its the passengers that squeal if you brake too late... guess how I know that!

you'll find most cerbera brakes squeal, i think there are shims available to help and the choice of pads can make a difference. the pads you've got are high performance and will stop squealing when really hot, but to get them hot enough you will need a race track!

Actually I disagree. 1144's aren't suitable for a race track at all, they overheat quickly (well 20 mins at Castle Coombe) and warp disks, but they are brilliant for the road.

Not had a problem with mine squeeling, in fact I switched to using them as other pads did squeal horribly.

the pads have only been on around 200miles so it could be bedding in ? they have done it from the 1st mile until now n it does'nt matter how hot i get them there is no change ( n i have tried to get some heat in them ) i've had the car almost 5 years now and its new with the pads so its not a cerb thing.......
