Or was he just keeping the revs down until the motor had warmed up?

Spotted a silvery-blue Tuscan (reg. *** VAY) ahead of me on a lovely windy unclassied road near Nottingham.

So thrashed the all-powerful Nissan, hoping to get near enough to hear a TVR straight 6 roar - and nearly ran into the back (OK little exageration) of him as he crawled along at about 40mph, increasing to a heady 47mph in the next mile or so... (and I had backed RIGHT off, honest)

Wasn't anybody on here was it? Disappointed and a little disillusioned I am... what a waste of car!

Cheers, Phil

That'll be the 1.0 diesel variant then... or maybe the bloke's wife... or maybe it's stuck in first gear.

Or it could be on the same type of roads we have here in Suffolk - you know the type - the ones that create just the right level of resonance in the chassis to make your teeth fall out....

Anything above about 50 on a couple of them here results in serious head injuries too. So you tend to naturally crawl about. I think that in excess of 90 should smooth it out, but that would be illegal

Cheers,

Paul

Maybe he witnessed said thrashing and decided that you should pass? Just a thought. When I am driving the Esprit and I see a small japanese car growing larger at a high rate of speed in my rear view, I always hope that they pass and slow down in case I have to take evasive action...

Just a thought

heh heh

Me thrashing my Nissan Sunny Coupe () does in no way result in "a small japanese car growing larger at a high rate of speed" unfortunately

No, I can honestly say my driving wasn't really bad enough to influence the behaviour of the TVR in front.

Come on, some other TVR driver please restore my faith...

Cheers, Phil

I've been crawling around in my Tamora, whilst running it in, and I will not be thrashing it from cold even now it's loosening up. The engine has such a mechanical, tappety sort of noise that it would sound like it was breaking if I went above 2500 revs from cold. Mind you, that gets me 60-70 in 5th....

I'll have to watch what I say here as many people's wives (including my own wife-to-be) may/will be reading, but I think its fair to say that some wives / girlfriends do go out for a quiet pootle in their partner's TVR and don't thrash it within an inch of its life. But that's ok - if they were intending to have a pootle then let them.

At the end of the day, just because you have a fast car doesn't mean you have to drive fast all the time.

In your opinion. But at the end of the day, its the decision of the Tuscan owner what speed they drive at, not yours. So long as they are enjoying their car then it is not a waste.

OK, the 'waste of car' was intended to be light-heared comment only (stemming from good-natured 'jealousy').

You make fair points JonRB, I wouldn't want to dictate how somebody enjoys their car (when not affecting anybody else significantly at least)

I'm still disappointed though, as all evidence still points at numptieness

Cheers, Phil

Grrrrr !!!!!

This is a WASTE of a car. If you wish to drive off road, get an off roader.

If you wish to pootle, buy a Metro. Plenty of wrinklies do.

If you wish to carry people, buy a people carrier.

You get the picture. SO;-

If you wish to go fast, buy a sports car.

For gods sake mate, you guys slag off the 4x4's driving round towns, which is clearly not the purpose of the vehicle... and then say it's ok to drive a sports car pathetically slowly???

I dunnow! if you're not gonna rev it, don't even bother starting it. Speaking of which, are the engines so badly machined that you *really* can't exceed 2500rmp during run in ? what's the red line on one of your beasties?

Oh come on Carl, lighten up a bit. Surely you don't drive your bike at 10/10ths the whole time?

Personally, if my finacee was out driving the Chimaera I'd want her to drive at the speed she was comfortable with and enjoy the car, not overcook it and have a prang just to keep you and filmidget happy.

Who said anything about 10/10s? 40-47mp ain't even 3/10's, is it?!!! Just means that the vehicle is not being used for its correct function.

Cheers Mark! but I am desperately trying to slow down, so 9/10's is ok !

I know nothing about Tuscans, but had this one been new, I would certainly not have thrashed it the way I would have thrashed a Jap box, were it new or not.
Don't forget some cars need to be run in, others don't...

A Numptie wouldn't even get into a Tuscan - probably some poor sod trying to listen for an ominous noise (big-end perhaps?). Or find a secluded spot for call of nature....
