F40 Jacking points
Discussion
Anyone have a favourite jacking point? On any 'normal' car it would be pointed out. The book just says place on level ground, loosen wheel nuts and jack car. Seeing as Maranello managed to drop it off the jack last summer, thought I couldn't do any worse myself. [It's not my car otherwise I would just make a judgement call on a suitable section of chassis.]
Also, can anyone talk English and give me an lb/ft torque figure for the wheel nut? [Not very good with Kilos or Newton Metres etc].
Thanks,
Dave.

Verdi Ferrari tell me that it's 65kgm (by my calculations that is 470 ft-lb, but that seems a lot!).
1m = 3.28ft
But I think at that point you divide the 143 by 3.28 which gives 43.5 ft-lb which sounds a bit more reasonable?
Having said that, it would explain why I had such a hard time getting the wheel nuts undone on my 208?!
65kgm is correct but my conversion is wrong as has been pointed out. Don't use www.onlineconversion.com/ for torque conversions!
I think I may have been talking (torqueing) b*ll*x earlier. Have had a look on my torque wrench and 65 newton metres = 47 ftlb? (not 43)
So perhaps the conversion is right, but the 65kgm should in fact be 65 newton meters because 1kg is equivalent to 10 newtons?
Also, I've had a look in my Workshop manual (for a 308) and the highest torque of any component is only 22kgm, and the engine's max torque is 29kgm!
It says 9kgm for "Fixing wheel to hub".

Many thanks guys. I've taken everything you've said on board but will check with a dealer just to be sure - I too heard the correct torque was around 200 ft/lbs which is stratospheric and beyond the manf tolerances of my broom handle so will also have to go shopping. The car's too nice to bodge!

Dave.

How do you respond to that ?
When I was growing up you generally do what it takes to get a job done - if something breaks or get's crushed you put it down to experience! The F40 commands an anal approach because if anything goes wrong the pain is very anal too!! I'm not too proud to ask... Now, having jacked it up, which way do I turn the nut and do you think I could use the pole from the spin-o-matic washing line to exert the right leverage?? Have a good weekend all !
Dave.
PS Know anything about Ultima handbrake cables? I have an MOT to pass....

Mate - don't take my comments the wrong way! I wasn't making disparaging remarks about your mechanical ability!!! I was just pointing out that there are a fairly high proportion of members on PH that have some serious vehicles and it just struck me as a bizarre thread as it's just so, so NORMAL It's fantastic!
Regarding Ult handbrake cables - yeah sure, what o you want to know?
