I've just been offered £1,000 net by Registration Transfers Ltd of Dunstable for a number I own, '300 BHX'.

Before I simply sign up, does any reader know of, or had any experiences with, this company, and is £1,000 a fair offer?

Registration transfers are one of the larger cherished number dealers, they regularly advertise in the press and on the internet at www.registrationtransfers.co.uk.
I purchased my number through them a couple off years back, they were quick and efficient then.

As for whether it's the right value, it's what it's worth to you or their propsective buyer. 100, 200, 300 or 20, 30 , 40 etc will be worth a little more than say 438 or 549 say. The comination of letters isn't likely to be a common one with the X so that will decrease it's value. Also plates with letters after numbers (called reversed cherished ) are worth a little less aswell. At the end of the day it all comes does to what someone wants to pay to buy , or what you want to sell.

True indeed - which was buy I bought it! However, if you know anyone called Bernard Harry Xylophone, let me know!

It seems to vary considerably between dealers. I thought about selling "DXS 37" a few months ago, but so far have not bothered. Reg. tranfers would return me £1500, NewReg £1200, but the best was Elite who generously offered to return £480. Come on, you can pay that for A12GYK or some similar crap no. from DVLC.
It may be worth a small ad in The Times on Sunday as a lot of numbers are privately offered. If you do this make sure you use solicitors to ensure nobody gets ripped off.

Only you know what you paid for it, and whether it's worth selling or keeping it. You could go to other sites and check how much a similar plate is up for sale at.

TRy going to www.google.co.uk and searching for 'registrations' in the UK only. This should list a whole load of different companies dealing in Cherished numbers.

As for the margins they take, I'm sure they do take the michael sometimes. If you're not happy don't sell.

for 3 nos and three letters like that I would excpect more than £1000, 635 BBK is up for £1500 on there site.

I see 300 ECX in Exchange and Mart for £999 (British Car Registrations) and that's the price to the buyer, so maybe they weren't far out.

I have had only bad stories with these reg guys. The first co offered me 49djb for 3800, waited 4 months, never appeared, money back. The second offered ---djb, cost 3600, if i hadnt chased them and treatened a visit,they would of banked my money for four months. I would try an ad in a paper or two.
