blocking a chimney ?

big draught down a chimney which makes the room cold

is there a quick, cheap and easy way to stop the draught ?

can i buy some special material to bung up there ?

I have a cut to size sheet of plasterboard over the front of mine when not in use.

I stuck a big cardboard box up mine and tank taped it round the edges.
I also removed the knob off the gas fire so the missis didn't try and use it....

Blocks all down draughts and mess, easy to put in place and take down

I always used a balloon! Even a normal one does the job

Plastic bin bag, stuff it full of newspaper tie it up and stuff it up the chimney, job done.

I used a hot water cylinder jacket, rolled it up and stuffed it up the hole, you do need to consider ventilation to avoid condensation, I pushed a piece of waste pipe up the side of the jacket to let the chimney breath a bit.

not have them, but balloons with long pipes and a hand pump apparently excellnt, easy to deflate as well

I discovered this problem in 1988 and stuffed some newpaper up the chimney.
