Near the top of my list would be 1970 Chevelle SS 454 and 1970-73 Trans Am. However if money was no object it would have to be a 1969 or 70 Boss Mustang or a Shelby. (Turning a bit F*rd lately, I think it's in expectation of the new Mustang, take note Chevrolet, that's "styling").

Still think the best looking vette is a '69 (in black of course...)

All the above that Malc has mentioned plus any Big Block Mustang or Big block Vette and SD455 Trans-Am.

If you can get hold of any BOSS Mustang 302 for 69-70 and even rarer was the BOSS 351 for 1971,then they would be guarenteed pensions.

Actually Cliff I've driven a 1971 Boss 351 that a friend used to own (about 4 or 5 years ago). Awesome tool but a bit of a handful, that shape where Mustangs became the size of an aircraft carrier (looked good though). I think Joe Dispenseri's got one too.

There's just been a 70 Boss 429 in grabber blue over here for about 42k and a fantastic one in the states on US ebay - so incredible it even looked good in white.

Originally my fave US car was always a Mustang though I've yet to own one. Never was really interested i vettes when I was a kid though I've had 3 of them. You know I'm gonna have to own one one day...

Interestingly when you look at REAL musclecars from the 60s and (very) early 70s they were actually pretty rare special editions of standard cars, e.g. there were plenty of Dodge Challengers, but most were shopping 318s, 340s or even 6 cylinders. Very few, comparatively speaking, were equipped with 440 six-paks or Hemis.

Kind of like our cars. Quite a few vettes made (though they're all a bit special, especially with only 20-30,000 made per year) but very few were ZR1s (about 6500 1990-95) or Callaway Twin Turbos (about 500 1987-1991).

We own the future musclecars!!!

Buick Riviera GS 455 circa 1965 or a Chrysler 300F would be my choices.

I remeber reading about the 300F a few years back they have interesting inlet manifold and they produce quite alot of HP.

Malc yes your right Joe has got a BOSS351 he's restoring at the moment,i love the shape of them and thought they were years ahead of their time with features like flush door handles and concealed wiper blades.
They produced 330hp back in 71 due to the mechanical lifters and other features over the 290hp hydraulic versions of the 351 4V MACH1's.

If you can get hold of the 1971 429(Big Block) MACH1 that will be another classic

Mopars have gone through the roof as more and more fall prey to collectors. The trick is to find something that will go up and still has readily available parts. My recommendation is a 1973 Camaro with the twin rear circular lights.

The Mark 2 MACH1 appeared in 1974 ('Charlies Angels' shape),the 71 ,72 & 73 were the same shape except for the grill and light differences,,,,The last of the original Mustang muscle cars before everything got detuned.

Mark 2 Mach I... that's the big one (body shell) with all the bonnet scoops and virtually flat rear window, right?
I didn't think they were as late as 74.
That's almost Mustang Mark 2 territory, yuck!

Sorry JT i didnt make that as clear as i should ,the 71,2 & 3's where the last of the big Mustangs with the flat(well almost) rear screen, the Mk2's came in in 74 in the smaller 'Charlies Angel' shape Mustang

Okay, got that.
There were 2 different shapes of the Mach I.
Personally I prefer "the look" of the last shape Mach I which I call Mark 2, it's a completely over the top type of styling, not sure what engine sizes were available though.
Not to be confused with the Mustang Mark 2.

That was a 73 Mach1 ,the difference being the Grill on a 73 featured vertical cruising lamps ,the 71,72 grills had horizontal cruising lamps.

James Bond drove a Mach 1 in Diamonds Are Forever. Great looking but very heavy,smog-strangled and underpowered.
