Hi chaps, just a quick question.
Does anybody know the weight of the Mercedes M120 V12 DOHC 48v engine? That´s the lump in the previous S600 and the Pagani Zonda in AMG-E73 form. Probably more than 650 lbs but I´d like to know for sure.
Thanks everybody!

Quick bit of googling:

the standard engine (as mounted in the S600) seems to have weighed 290 kg, which is around 640lbs if I'm not mistaken.

Can't help with the weight but I thought the BMW V12 was all alloy so much lighter than the Merc engine. Don't know if this helps - might be telling you something you already knew !

Not sure about that.

I found the info on this site: www.mb-w140.de/Start.htm (German only...) The figure of 290 kg was quoted to be 'Gesamtgewicht' or total weight.

On the same website the weight of the contemporary BMW V12 was stated to be 240 kg.
Both engines are constructed entirely out of aluminium but the Mercedes V12 is obviously bigger and also sports four overhead camshafts and 48 valves (BMW: two cams and 24 valves).

Thank you MDG, I know for sure that the weight of the BMW V12 with ancilliaries(but without the big fan and its viscous clutch) is around 205-210 kg. The 290 kg has to be with ancilliaries and it looks as a true figure. Cheers!
