A stark reminder of how wrong it can all go, be careful out there.

RIP to the driver, sympathies to friends and relatives.

Bad news indeed. frown

Does anyone here know the area? Overturning an Exige is *bloody* hard to do unless you are going very fast *and* hit ramps / ditches etc. *or* you're incredibly unlucky *and* you still hit ditches / ramps / etc.

I'm assuming, being Putney, it's London and hence a built up area, so unlikely to be hooning at *high* speeds, especially in winter and an Exige (assuming the normal tyres that come supplied with Exiges). Has to be road furniture-related, and a massive dose of bloody bad luck.

Maybe a bit gruesome thinking of the details when some poor bloke has just died, but I had a yellow Exige once... and an accident in which the car went part way up a side banking never even posed a risk of the car *overturning* - I always think of the Lotus Exige / Elise as being incredibly safe little sports cars to be in, as long as you don't end up upside down frown And they're *bloody* hard to turn over.

Not that I would want to see it but I bet the 'in Police car CCTV' caught the incident. RIP fellow Lotus enthusiast.

I'm guessing it's the A3 so high speeds could be possible late night.

According to someone over on Seloc its a stretch of road that would make overturning an Exige very difficult so not too sure how its happened.

Very very sad and makes you stop and think when you read threads like this

Sad news assuming the drive of the Exige was the owner / had permission to be driving it (it says his but you never know with the bbc website). Seems strange for someone do something so wrong they over turn a car in the immediate proximity of the Police.

Putney Hill is 30 from top to bottom, but most people speed on the top section towards the A3, assuming it's 40 like the A3 even buses some times undertake me in the bus lane) - not sure where the accident was (and am not suggesting driver was speeding but it's a straight road from top to bottom and reasonably wide for a single carridge way (bus lane goes all the way down to the high street (there is a speed camera on it as well). Rather sad.

Had a look this morning on my way down the hill and something has taken out five metal posts and railings towards the bottom of the Hill i guess this might have been it - I can only speculate that the cold weather had a part to play and perhaps too much speed for the conditions. RIP.

Puts the shivers on me that photo! I would like to think my screen holds up better in that event but I can't see why it would be any different.

Always sad to hear of a fatality.

The picture looks like the kind of accident that you would normally walk away from. The roll-bar looks to have survived in tact and nothing has obviously penetrated the passenger cell.

As I understand the structure, the windscreen and surround isn't really meant to survive. That's why you have a big rollbar 6 inches above your head.

I live directly opposite the scene of the accident, but was out when this happened,

I cannot work how this happened. The road is a straight stretch with no bumps to catch you out.

I can only presume he was going a bit quick saw the police car hit the brakes and lost the backend. The roads were dry, but cold.

Very sad news, RIP and condolences to the family.
