Looks like the magic roundabout, Swindon. Never been the same way across that.

There is only one advantage, if you are following a numptie and both entering and leaving the same exit, if he goes clockwise, you can go anti-clockwise (or vice-versa) and beat him to the exit!!! Think of it as an overtaking opportunity!

Is this for real?
How can any road engineer with a bit of self-esteem let such things happen???

I went through the Swindown magic roundabout once (I mean, on one occasion) many years ago. I recall its a pentagon with a roundabout on each of the 5 points of the pentagon with a counter-rotating roundabout in the centre. This looks similar.

I've only been through there twice (both by accident whilst trying to avoid it). As far as I could tell the best method is the 'italian' approach, of aiming for the exit you want, and floor it making the appropriate hand signals to anyone who objects.

Its not quite as bad, but the one at the bottom of the hill in High Wycombe can get 'interesting' at times as well.

Yes there is one in Colchester - it is very effective, when you have learn`t how to use it! However when you first approach it - well... You can see from the pictures!!

Looks like a laugh.

Has to be better than those huge roundabouts with traffic lights all over the place - just what is the point of that?

The best thing about the Swindon Magic roundabout was that no one ever had any idea who had right of way. The trick was to drive like a dratsab, and everyone slowed, assuming that if you kept coming, you obviously did have right of way, and gave way!

Managed to move away from it now, but the picture still brings back nightmares!

Are all those roundabouts painted instead of raised? I'm thinking that of a wet Sunday morning at say 5:30 with no-one else around... donut central!

There sure is. Drove there for the first time last week and can safely say it is one of the most idiotic places I've ever driven. No one has a clue which lane to be in, and everyone just has to force the front of the car onto the r'bout just to make progress..

Alfa Dave - The one near Basildon is actually right at the bottom of the A13 on the outskirts of Southend, and I learnt to drive in Southend, it isn't that bad..

big roundabouts with lights on 'em ? Essex has them in droves.
