IMO - The most ugly, horrible looking rubbish cars I have ever seen, and sadly once driven.

Just wrong in every possible way.

However, I used to see plenty of people, for god knows whatever reason who had purchased and were driving around in them without showing any signs of embarrassment.

I don't see them any more, or hear about them. Were they shuffled under the carpet and hidden away, like the car version of "Windows Millennium Edition" ?

Me, I like it - it's a functional car that was a had function over form. I know someone that has one, he originally baulked at the idea, but loves the sheer practicality of it.

It's not for shrinking violets - I'd have one as I think it's a proper functional car, but I don't think the OH would be too thrilled.

Still there but the front is less distinctive these days.

There's a Multipla one road away from me, in BRG. But the guy also has a track MX5 and a weekend RX7 in original condition.

Why not just buy one of those Honda FRV things?

I like them because they're different and they do actually handle, wide track and low centre of gravity means that they can be hustled pretty darned well.

There's at least one of the originals still around, parked up about 100m away from my garage door.
Doesn't seem to have moved for quite a while though.

I also like them. In fact I prefer the brutally ugly original version.

Function over form. Never driven one but they're meant to be good for what they are.

I think the original Multipla was actually perfectly ok looking and that Fiat should have held their bottle and kept it that way rather than neutering it into the later version.

As for why buy one over an FRV - let's keep in mind the kind of discounts that Fiat would offer to shift them!

yesIn a world of bland-mobiles there's something refreshingly honest about them.

I like the original Multipla. Good functional piece of design and it at least doesn't look like everything else on the road. Ugly is better than dull.

By far my favourite people carrier. thumbup

I agree. Fugly is better than bland. I went in one being used as a taxi once, and it a was very pleasant place to be.

Because they are nothing like as good.
I had a Multipla for 6 years/85k miles and it was superb.
I looked at the FRV as a replacement but was not impressed, it is based on a Civic(the Multipla has a bespoke simi-spaceframe chassis)and is therefore too narrow to comfortably fit 3 proper sized seats accross it, as a result it is cramped and uncomfortable with 6 adults aboard, it is also not possible to turn off the passenger airbag meaning you can only put a child seat in the centre front seat if you slide it back to the point where there is no legroom in the back.
The Multipla was reliable, comfortable, fun to drive, economical and fantasticly designed to do its job of carrying six people in comfort and their luggage in a car that is shorter than a Golf.
I had one of the first ones in the UK and until people got used to them the reaction varied from amazement to pointing and laughing but I did not care because I buy cars that I like and it was such a great car.

sorry if the spelling in thist post is wobbly, the computers on this oil rig are not equipped with spell checkers and I am dyslexic

I really liked this one...

a bit weird, but weird in a cool sort of way. Much better looking than its extremely dull replacement....

But the centre rear seat slides back too, making two arrowhead shaped rows of seats.

Brilliant car.
Practical beyond belief, faster than you'd imagine with the JTD due to low weight. The lightness of the upper body also contributes to it's great handling. Different league to any other MPV I've driven. Much shorter too.

Unbelievably reliable too.

Then you loose lots of boot space, the Multipla also had sliding centre seats so it could achive the same effect but allowing the passenger airbag to be turned off is imo a better solution.

Contrary to the opinion of those who haven't driven one, the Multipla is one of the most PH MPVs there is.
