Saw on the news a local guy abused then killed a 4 year old boy in a Mosque toilet (and also drank booze).

Punishment - 6 months in jail for the booze, then death by firing squad.

As much as justice in the UAE can be puzzling - they got this one right.

One thing I find slightly interesting is that this guy and the last one they executed a few years ago now are both Emirati. There must have been loads of 'expats' convicted of bad crimes in recent years, none were executed. Goes against the whole 'locals get away with everything' angle. (OK, except for the recent royal family torture case.)

Shows that their justice system is cro8ck of sh*t if they cannot adminsister the same laws for everyone, local or not. Still they have lots of oil so let's play ball with them. As for the 6 months, well that was a waste of resources if they were going to shoot him anyway.

I suspect the 6 months was for kiddy-fiddling and the firing squad was for drinking in a mosque. . . . . .

The UAE has the world's sixth largest oil reserves - but tis true that Dubai hasn't got alot of it.

Err - yes it does.

Well, Abu Dhabi does - and that's part of the UAE.

Yes we clearly have a lot to learn from Dubai in matters of justice. I imagine the pedophile was given a fair trial and DNA evidence presented before they shot him as well.

Yeah, but just look how low the re-offending rate is. . . . . . . wink

Good point.

The same could be said for those who are accused of stealing... But then again on the other hand..

Good - that's how a peado should be dealt with.
Cannot understand the bleating and whinging about fair trials/drink/islam blah blah blah. See it in isolation - oh and Booze is just soooo important to some people isn't it. Pathetic.

Anyway, if we had more justice like that HERE, then this proud nation wouldn't be rapidly going to the dogs.... (here we sentence rapists to three fking years and our prisons are more like holiday camps)

You imagine, or you know?
Do you not think justice has been served then? Also do you think that if I posted countless stories of crimes and the punishments handed out in the UK, that you would consider them justified?

This guy was caught pretty much red-handed, confessed to the lot. Not by the police or any other authority, but by devout, law abiding Muslims, at a place of worship. His best mate testified to say that he was a regular alcohol drinker. He had 9 (IIRC) previous violent convictions....most recently been released from prison after spending years for the rape of an adult woman.
3 Judges indepentantly reviewed the case and only on sentancing day, deliberated.
I do think the UK has a lot to learn about justice. I'm not saying Dubai is perfect, far from it, but I'd rather be walking around Dubai city centre at midnight, than most parts of London.
Oh, and they haven't shot him yet.

Get off your high horse. It was tongue-in-cheek to illustrate a point. The suggestion was that Dubai somehow had a legal system that was in some way superior to ours. The reality is however that as much as ours fails it is still amongst the most progressive in the world.

I also wonder if you would feel as safe walking the same streets if you were a woman?

If you honestly believe the legal system in Dubai favours justice above ours you're either deluded or itching for an arguement that I won't give you.
