Mechanic to motorsport

I'm qualified NVQ L3 Mechanic been doing it for about 5 years, Always been messing with cars and bikes from a young age, I'm thinking about changing to something more in motorsport (jobs, college and uni possible) anybody done this or know where best to start. Any help or advice appreciated. I'm located in manchester. Thanks
