Building Control fees... :-O
Discussion
I've just spoken to Building Control about putting an ensuite shower into a flat I'm renovating in Croydon. It's pretty straightforward work - waste, shower tray, extraction and should take about 2 or 3 days to get it upto the point of tiling. The BC fee they want for this is £302! I'm not even sure it'll need 2 visits and is so straight forward.
The first time I've had anything to do with Building Control, but it doesn'tseem like value for money. God knows what the fee would be if there was serious work going on like an extension or loft conversion.
Mini half baked rant over ;-)

That does sound a lot.
Tell them the cost of the works is under £2000.
I have just looked at 5 different councils fee chart and none are greater than £164.
I've tried their online calculator which came up with that figure. I then phoned them today to ask the fee as I couldn't believe it would be so much and that's the same figure they gave me for work under £2k.Tell them the cost of the works is under £2000.

£164 sound like what I'd expect for 2 half hour visits!
