TVR Cerbera Speed 12 to Return?
Discussion
I heard over the weekend that the Speed 12 that supposedly had been sold to Japan never went.
According to the info I was given it's now been sold to a UK team and the engine boys in Blackpool are dusting down the V12 again (if they're not on strike).
I've no verification of any of this but there's usually a grain of truth in these rumours so the SP12 may not be dead yet.
Supercharged V12 anyone?

Both the black car and the red car that was at Racing Green are being worked on currently at the factory. Both sold, but I understood that whilst they may grace the odd track or two in the UK, they wouldn't be racing.
There is certainly a Speed 12 engine in the engine development shed.

Ha ha - if anyone has bought it I wish them the very best of luck - they'll need it!
Seriously, I really can't see it racing again. The engine guys have quite enough on their plates dealing with the increasing number of T400Rs and the development of this new supercharged thingy, without having to be constantly rebuilding blown 12 engines. How many times did it lunch its engine in '02? Quite a few!
It really isn't a car for the enthusiastic amateur.

The silver one was repainted red I believe.
Given the development of the speed 6 engine in the last 18 months, the V12 could have an extra lease of life and might squeeze more power out of the restricted motor...
My informant suggested that the engine(s) had been dragged out to be cleaned up. If a customer is willing to pay for it then you can bet your bottom dollar TVR will get to work on it.

Surely it won't take much development if the sp12 is just two sp6 engines and the typhon is already supercharged.
The difficulty, as I remember it, with the 12 was that it wasn't quite as straightforward as a pair of sixes stuck together. Apart from the fabricated block - the welding and machining of which took a lot of hours - the heads were heavily modified when compared to even our race engine.
I'm not really referring to any development of the 12, the mere upkeep of the motors is a time-consuming task. The factory team could (just about!) cope with the tight timescales involved in their turnarounds, but could a privateer outfit?
(It's funny, as I typed the above I found myself thinking of the 12 almost as an aero engine which, given its size (physical and cc), weight and truly peculiar sound, I suppose it almost was...)
I'm sure someone at the factory said both cars had been bought by a UK corporate - not a race team. Both of them, more so the red car, were being worked on when I was there. And there is one Sp12 engine on a frame in the engine development area, but with little sign of any work having commenced on it.
Unlike a Sp6 engine which was in a thousand pieces and had the work 'Eclipse' written on many of them

Ah, Graham. Yes he did and he's been sat in the workshop surveying the build for the last couple of months. I believe he had a sneak preview of the new colour scheme too, but was sworn to secrecy.
(To be honest I think he was forgotten about. I could ask the chaps to post him, or would you prefer it if he caught the train? A taxi might be a bit pricey from oop t'North... Send me an e-mail with an address.)
Piers isn't a superstitious fellow, but he sent me an e-mail after Brands that was something like: "No co-pilots next year, please", so the orange fellow will have to hitch a ride with someone else. How about Shorty's Mosler?
