Robert Peston:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/thereporters/robertpest...

'George Osborne, the shadow chancellor, has just told me that Obama's plan to break up the banks is consistent with the views he expressed in his recent bank reform paper.

His condition for implementing such a radical plan was that it needed international agreement.

Well, he has got that now. So he has told me - explicitly - that a Tory government would impose an identical dismantling of British banks to those suggested by President Obama.'

What is Osborne thinking?

Obama's reforms are being discussed there, but I thought Osborne's (future Chancellor's) banking policy worthy of discussion on its own merits.

Does Boy George have some incriminating evidence against CMD for a past crime?

It's bizarre that he's given such an important role within the shadow cabinet. He's a liability.

Not sure what, if anything, Osborne has done to enhance the Tories, especially over the last 12-18 months during which he ought to have had a field day with Darling/Brown.

Need Hague to gain more prominence quickly.

No problem, chap. Just a pity the next Chancellor is a turnip.

Isn't Osborne one of the key strategists behind the scene?

If that's the case, makes it even worse.

Is it possible to say 'it's not our fault the economy got destroyed, there wasn't enough regulation!' and then cry when someone does something about it?

Can those criticizing Osborne give any indiciation if they think any reforms of the banking sector are necessary?

As these reforms actually seem to come from Paul Volcker I have a fair degree in confidence in them.

Ozzy would probably have more of a hands-on approach when it comes to taking a bite out of the deficit wink
