Extract from the Telegraph.

"On the first day of the case on Wednesday, the families of the victims gasped and sobbed as Sheffield Crown Court was shown a mobile phone clip of part of the violence filmed by one of the brothers.

The judge, Mr Justice Keith, heard the victims were strangled, smashed with bricks, forced to eat nettles, stripped and forced to sexually abuse each other in Edlington, South Yorkshire, on April 4 last year.

The elder boy was seriously injured when pieces of a ceramic sink were dropped on his head.

The brothers, who are now aged 11 and 12, have admitted causing their victims grievous bodily harm with intent.

They denied a more serious charge of attempted murder but the prosecution accepted their pleas and said there would be no trial. Both also pleaded guilty to robbing one of the boys of a mobile phone and the other of cash.

They admitted two counts of intentionally causing a child to engage in sexual activity.

The brothers also admitted causing another 11-year-old actual bodily harm a week before the young boys were attacked.

Thursday is the second day of a three-day sentencing exercise which is expected to conclude on Friday.

Mr Campbell said the younger victim left the scene and soon came across a local man who noticed he was covered in blood and had an obvious wound on his arm.

Two girls also came across the blood-soaked youngster.

Derek Wright, who lived on Auburn Road, Edlington, saw the youngster and laughed at first because he thought he had been painted, the prosecutor said.

When he realised the boy was covered in blood and shivering he took him into his home, the court heard.

Eventually the young victim told Mr Wright about his uncle, saying: "He's down there but he can't see."

He said: "Some boys have beat me up with long sticks."

The court heard how at this point the boy's eyes started to roll and it seemed he was going into shock.

Mr Campbell said the younger victim's parents then arrived at Mr Wright's home followed by paramedics.

He said a medic "was able to see bone and a lot of mud amidst the blood".

Mr Wright's sons, Trevor and Ian, then began to search for the second boy as the police were alerted, the judge heard.

"It took some time to find (the boy) and it was Ian Wright who stumbled upon him," Mr Campbell said. "Through the trees he saw (him) lying face down on the ground at the bottom of a ravine."

The court heard Mr Wright found the boy with the bottom half of his body naked. He was wearing only a T-shirt on the upper half.

It was told Mr Wright found a branch stuck to the youngster's face but decided not to remove it because one of the thorns was embedded in his cheek.

As the boy slipped into unconsciousness, Mr Wright feared he had died. He said at the time: "There didn't appear to be any life in him."

Mr Campbell said Mr Wright was so upset he ran off when the air ambulance arrived, smashing his head on branches as he fled."

Dear God Almighty, that is sickening.

Of course it is so easy to be cynical and leap from here to,

Hanging is too good for them.

It will be Jamie Bulger case all over again, new identities, short sentences etc

Police and Social services statements - lessons will be learnt.

However the two accused we placed by social services into the care of two foster parents (of advanced years) who no doubt had no idea of the boys backgrounds.

An absolutely shocking case.

I am afraid I can see no justification for letting creatures such as this back into society. I don't think we can terminate them due to their age, but I don't think they should ever see the light of day again.

Some real blame also needs to be given to the attackers' mother. This woman was allowing them to watch gory horry films, and fed them cannabis in an attempt to pacify them. By all accounts she did not bring them up in any kind of civilised fashion.

I'm no wishy-washy liberal, but the attackers can be seen as victims in this as well.

Having said that, they need locking up for a very long time - with rehabilitation.

Agreed and should also be sterilised the thought of these two being able to bred and raise children of their own is frightening.

May make me sound like a bloody nazi but we have scum breeding scum breeding scum all funded by law abiding folk and all we ever here is the same old ste "lessons have been learnt" or " draw a line" horlicks.

I just can't comprehend how a child could do that to another, the premeditated and planned nature of it, the sexual degredation and severe violence. Hearing about that story fills me with sadness and disgust.

There are two children already depraved, capable of potentially taking a life and two innocent children now most probably physically and mentally scarred for life.

I truly do not understand how this has come to happen. When I was at school - a while ago certainly but it was a boy's only average type of secondary school - not only did the boys almost never hit each other in the face, but they wouldn't have known how to force sexual abuse, let alone had the guts to actually do it. Where has the nature of young people changed like this, not even the post-watershed TV or cinema can be blamed for this kind of 'knowledge'. frown

Their mother should be facing child neglect charges - makes me quite angry!

Actually, I must have blanked out that knowledge - yes, I have seen about ten minutes of one of them and prior to that the only film I have ever turned off due to obscene violence was 'Wolf Creek', but the 'Saw' film did it. Time for a bit of common sense in HMG film certification control maybe?

No more the fault of these kids than its the fault of a dog when it eats a toddler. Owners/parents every time. Doesnt mean i'd let the kids/dog off....put them all down, fk em.

As a parent you have a blank canvas to create what you want until about age 11 (once they go to secondary school mates/Internet/TV take over as the biggest influence) Any kid thats nuts before they hit their teens...parents fault.

The film thing is interesting...one of my eldest sons (9) mates has seen saw 1-35 or whatever they go to...i find that pretty shocking TBH. My kid has seen plenty of 18 rated films but in my presence and where i felt the film offered something to him beyond grim and gore.....for example, Young Guns, Die Hard..Usual Suspects last weekend. The idea of giving him Saw or Hostel and leaving him alone would disgust me though.

To be honest if this happened to my boy then the attackers probably wouldn't have got to court, they'd just disappear.

Yes of course it's the parents fault. But when a dog goes bad eventually all you can do it put it down or cage it up.

Which is what will happen to those two.

Lord of the Flies, eh? Bad.

Absolutely sickening.

No doubt when these boys get out of detention/prison they will be given new identities and have millions spent on them per year by the taxpayer.

Surely they'll be given new identities and go through youth detention and such.

I just struggle to fathom how someone aged 10 could do that, the parents are clearly to blame for this one. Letting a child with no real moral compass watch disgusting films like Saw could always potentially lead to something like this, I still cant imagine at any point during the attack that they didn't stop and think 'this is wrong'.

No doubt the films will be blamed more than the parents who let them watch them though. At least there's no mention demonisation of video games this time though.

Really is terrible. Surely they will plead some sort of mental health issue?
