Combi Flue Question
Discussion
Our combi recently had its annual health check from BG as part of the breakdown cover, however the guy who did it said that although the boiler was fine the installation didn't meet current regs and the flue isn't supported properly. The flue comes out of the top of the boiler (Vokera Linea) and then through the ceiling of the bathroom, which is about 6" or so above, then through the loft and after about another 3' out of the roof.
My question is, at which point should the flue be supported, halfway up its length in the loft, just above the boiler or both ? The reason I ask is that I don't think the BG guy looked in the loft so he wouldn't know if it was supported up there already or not.
I've bought the clamp etc from the local plumbers merchant already, I just need a bit of guidance on where to fit it.
Thanks in advance.

He should have give the full length of the flue a visual inspection...
But if the boiler's working fine, you can assume the flue is in order...
Put the clamp anywhere that is convenient... iirc they're meant to be clamped at 1800mm intervals, but I could be wrong/inaccurate... have a Google for your make and model of boiler for specifics... Or if you have the installation manual it will tell you in there...

ks. I'd want that boiler stripped and checked. Do we just wait until it breaks down? Is preventative maintenance a thing of the past? Seems BG are happy to just train monkeys to use an FGA.Ferg said:

I didn't spend four years as an apprentice to do that!!! Cya!!!
Thanks for the replies guys, much appreciated.
I've been in the house 6 years and started the contract with BG then. I've never known them inspect the entire flue tbh and that includes the initial visit when they tested water from the rads etc, something thats never been done since. They do just seem to test the gasses and not much more these days whereas years ago when I was in a differnt house they seemed to do a more thorough job.
I'll clamp the flue half way up its length in the loft, that should satisfy them.
Cheers.
