petrol Seepage Fuel Sender

Hi Norm
The seals should be good enough on their own.
From memory the Landrover ones (ARA 1502) are a bit thicker than the originals
If the lugs on the tank are bent out they can be lightly tapped back in for a tighter fit.
Can't suggest a sealant I'm afraid. I know NOT to use silicone as it will evenyually dissolve.
Cheers

I'm with elfit on this one - it took me countless goes of bending the little tags on the tank, and refitting the ring, but I was determined not to use sealant because (a) there are only a few that are resistant to petrol (b) I didn't want to risk sealer squeezing out inside the tank and blocking something up and (c) the sealer might be a right b
d to remove if you ever need to get the sender out again!
I have also read that the land rover seal is slightly thicker but I think I just used a standard one - can't remember now.

I had same problem Norm and looked for ages for a sealant then went to Halfrauds and got a tube of Hermetite Red as a last resort, which is "resistant" to petrol. If you smear this on the inside of the recess then on both sides of the rubber seal it makes installation of the seal and locking ring easier as it slips round on the sealant and then the sealant goes semi-hard after about 30 mins and stays that way for good. As it only semi-sets disassembly and re-assembly is easy afterwards - I just clean off old stuff and re-apply (have had to do the job 3 times to date after first use of Hermetite - but not for leaks).
Tank has never weaped after using the Hermetite, make sure it is the Red variety as the othrs (blue and green) are not petrol resistant.
