Renaultsport Megane 250 Cup
Discussion
Having just read the Autocar road test of the new 250 cup, i am quite impressed with the numbers the car has produced.
0-60 6secs
0-100 13.7secs
for a car with 250ps, it is punching more like car with 280+bhp.. it fact it is almost as quick as a Audi S4 v8 from 60-100mph.
I wonder if the car tested is producing rather more than the stated figure or it really is that quick.
i get the impression the car was alittle more than standard!

To get figures like that you're going to have to flat shift. I doubt the gearbox / car in general will be up to that sort of abuse more than once
Some company hires out Renaultsport Clios at the 'ring, and reports no issues so I doubt there'll be much wrong with the Megane.... (Autocar don't flat shift in their Road tests as far as I'm aware.)But if you're not up to changing gears, how about the Cup's in-gear times:
40-60 in fouth in 3.6 seconds, 70-90 and 80-100 in fourth in 4.0 seconds. 90-110 in 4.3....
Hi all, and apologies for bringing up an old thread. I don't feel important enough to create my own just for this, so I'll post here
Last night I test drove a 2011 Renaultsport Megane 250 (black, cup chassis, Recaro - fully loaded) and, needless to say, bit the dealer's hand off; all being well I pick it up on Tuesday or Wednesday next week.
Being 29 years old and a far from wealthy, I've struggled to afford cars I loved up to this point. Not necessarily because the prices of the cars have been out of reach, but because the insurance has been absolutely bloody obscene. For example, I almost bought a an Alfa Brera back in 2010 but couldn't afford the (wait for it) £3,500 for insurance. I mean... what?! Don't even get me started on the 147 GTA. That was an absolute no go, and now (sadly) I'll never get to drive one.
Anyway, I digress. Apart from the aforementioned Brera (210bhp), the most powerful car I've ever driven (and owned in this case) was a '58 2L Mazda 6 TS @ ~ 150bhp. That was a nice enough drive, but the power delivery was bizarre... it only came alive when you started bordering on breaking the law - up until that point it was a pretty lacklustre affair. Before that I had a '52 Alfa 147 (1.6 T Spark Lusso / 120bhp) which I *loved*. I still miss it!
At present I drive a Renaultsport Twingo (133 / cup chassis) which is actually my wife's car, but I... well, basically stole it from her
Such an amazing little thing! It sounds incredible, and the amount of fun you can have in it is second to none - laser sharp handling, more grip than anything I've experienced before. It's basically like a gnat on speed, and I love it - even if I do look a bit of a plonker (I'm over 6ft 2", so I have to cram myself in there).
In other words, I have never driven a car of the Megan's calibre, so when I punched the accelerator last night my eyes widened, my jaw dropped and (apparently) I shouted "BLOODY HELL!" It was breathtaking, and it feels *so* good being able to FINALLY drive a car I really want. It absolutely blew my bks off. My entire concept of 'fast car' has been redefined. It sounds daft I know, but up until this point I have only been able to look at stats etc on sites like this, or Parkers. It's easy to conceptualise what driving a 200bhp + car would be like, but actually DRIVING one... wow. I was utterly blown away - my cherry has been well and truly popped
I am extremely happy. There's only one slight niggle - keeping the wife away from it will be an issue - she's Spanish and loves speed; it's true what they say about Latin fire!
Cheers, and see you around the boards
