Evening All,

Been a bit of a lurker in these parts for ages and I was wondering if you lot could give me some advice!?

I'm going to Le Mans this year with a couple of mates and whilst I've got a couple of lenses for my Nikon (a 14-24, 24-70 and 105) I don't have anything anything longish which I expect I'm going to need to get some decent pictures of the cars in action.

I've never done any motorsport photography before so any general guidance to what would be a good lens to look at getting would be a great help. I don't have £££ to spend but would like to get something that is up to the job

Cheers,

Patrick

As you don't have Ks to spend like the pros I'd suggest the Nikon 70-300VR. Not f2.8 but it has AF-S focusing so if your body's AF is up to it you'll be able to focus track well enough.

Then again given your current 'stable' of lenses perhaps Sir would appreciate something more expensive?!

300mm minimum for Le Mans and, just as importantly, a monopod.

Hire a 200-400 and do the job properly.

Actually that looks good - as long as they don't get too close!

Tis the only Nikon lens i wish Canon (or someone else) would do in an EF mount. It's pretty much a perfect Motorsport zoom.

Of all the Canon lenses I've bought the 100-400mm L lens has been the most amazing. It has a built-in stabilizer and is great for motorsport and landscap shots. Le Mans requires a good zoom or telephoto as there are very few places where you can get close to the track itself.
