Transferring DV tapes to computer

I have a bunch of digital video tapes (DV size tapes) that I've taken over the past few years and am about to transfer them to computer for editing and long term storage. I've got a fairly old version of Pinnacle Studio software on Windows and iMovie on the Mac that I can use to transfer to computer. Is there any difference in the quality of different software capture packages to do this or is it a simple case of transferring data from tape to computer which any package would do equally as well?

as above - dv is digital, so quaility wont be different- you are just transfering data to the computers - ones and zeros


as i'm a mac guy, id recommend imovie. just plug camera into firewire port, and off you go. its dead easy.
