Hi all
Thinking about getting a sports backbox for my k series elise. Looking at the larini one that is 400 pound on elise-shop. Wat does this sound like with a hurricane induction kit? Are there any performance gains? Or is it better to get a sports backbox fitted from longlife? Thanks

Have you looked at the videos of comparisons (click my name to the left of this post, then click on videos) - I made some comparions videos when I fitted my Larini

Larini Clubsport is the one, but I know a few owners who's partners have put their foot down with the noise. laugh

It sounds damn good! Performance - you might free up a couple of bhps but then you might lose a couple of torques too. Mine was on the dyno a couple of years back and hit around 15bhp, which with transmission losses is probably around 165, but whether that was down to better breathing or Rover quality control, who knows...

Mine's got a Larini club sport with decat pipe, also fitted a 4-2-1 manifold and Hurricane induction.
Sounds great- not too noisy if you want to creep home at 5 in the morning but when you give it some beans it sounds awesome!
Not sure about power, maybe adds a couple of horsepower but i'm sure it has more torque through the rev range.
It sounds like it's added 50 bhp though.Do it- you won't regret it.
Dunx.

The popular ones are the Larini Club Sport, and 2ubular. I've got the Larini fitted with the standard CAT and it is nice. A bit booming on the motorway at 3500 rpm, but loud when the pedal is down and quiet enough cruising.

Then I am comparing it to a Cherry Bomb equipped, Pre Cat TVR Griffith, so most things are quiet.

A lot of it comes down to whether you want to do trackdays in your car.

I'd always recommend the 2bular 'quiet' option even though it's not as 'blood and thunder' as some of the others on the market, you can guarantee you'll pass noise restrictions at virtually all circuits (inc. Bedford). And there's no resonance or booming, which can be a real wear on a long journey. And it still sounds ace, and lets the engine rev out a lot more freely (this isn't on a Rover though, but I see no reason why swapping a baffled backbox for a straight-through design shouldn't have the same effect on a K-engined car)...

If it's just a weekend road hoonage car though, knock yourself out - plenty of loud stuff available. Larini CS and a decat will be funny-loud but will need earplugs on the motorway, 2bular do loud exhausts if you want too.

Personally I'd like an infinitely adjustable silencing solution... and I have an invention which I'm trying to get a patent on (and see if someone else has already thought it up) since I haven't seen anyone else come up with anything similar... and I reckon my design would not only work, but also be reliable under exhaust temperature conditions... just need a proper engineer to run it by wink

Right...where do i start?!?!

Newbie here, so please play nice!

I've got an S2 Sports Racer (blue/white) and use it daily...yes, even in the weather we've had recently.
It's totally standard, but can't help but think it's not noisy enough until it gets to 6000rpm.
I've been looking at the Larini systems, but I'm wondering if the Club Sport option will be too noisy for daily driving, so was thinking maybe the 'standard' sports option would be better.
Also, what opinions do you experts have on filters/induction kits? I've heard tales of fuel/air flow sensors getting ruined by excess oil blowing through...?

Cheers,

Hazmat

Hi

I recently had a Larini Sports (not club) fitted to my 02 k-series sports tourer. After a couple of months use I have to say I think I made the right call for me (here was the thread: http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/topic.asp?h=0...

It has a nice but not over the top bark when starting up, it is fairly quite at low revs and builds up the higher the revs go and when down changing to a stop at lights has a lovely burbling sound. It can be slightly boomy at motor way speeds but it has been suggested that this could be due to the hard top (which I almost never take off).

I've thought about adding a hurricane too but I wouldn't do it until I get a second practical car again in case it did become too noisy (it also worries me that it could sound chavy?.. need to hear one again as it has been a while).

Theres not many 111Rs with Larinis on that i've seen but Buckykat(Irwin)on Seloc has a Sport fitted(edit:Its a red SR not a 111R) and it sounds absolutely fantastic cloud9
Ive got some vids of an Elise S with a Larini Sport if you want a look smile
Would'nt bother with induction if i were you either.
