TVRs with MOT

Just seen a posting on the S forum about TVRs passing/failed MOT's.

Basically VOSA have published figures for 2007 after a FOI request from the BBC. It shows numbers of cars by Make/Model/Year that passed and failed MOT's and what area they were failing on.

From the figures it looks like the following passed MOT's in 2007

Cerbera - 753
Chimaera - 3199
Griffith - 1124
S's - 549
Sagaris - 2
T350 - 258
T400R - 9
Tamora - 192
Tasmin - 285
Tuscan - 910

it would be interesting to compare these figures with the number of each model manufactured by TVR to see by how much the numbers for each have fallen (allowing for the small number of cars which may have been shipped abroad and for the later models which, in 2007, would not have required an MOT it would give a fairly accurate indication). It might make depressing reading judging by the bad news posted on PH these past few weeks of TVR's bring written off in accidents

From a quick glance at T350 data it appears a significant proportion of fails year on year are for brakes. On the one hand thats a bit odd, as the brakes are so strightforward to maintain. On the other hand, it might provide evidence in favour of the 'regular use' argument, as, certainly in my case, the brakes were not changed because they were worn out but because the insides of the rear discs were rusting away.

Would be interesting to see the same figures for 2009, as all Tivs would be over 3yrs old by then (I note only 2 Sags were in 2007).
Is there such a list for cars SORN during the same time period as they would not show up on the MOT list?

...meaning your rear brakes were not really working ? Something wrong with the calipers?

remember your car has to be 3 years old to have an MOT... if this data was 2007 it would mean the cars would be 2004 cars coming for there MOTs... I'm i right?

Given that by 2007 a pretty sizeable chunk of the TVR population was already living the high life abroad (including mine ) and some others would have been SORN, the numbers don't sound too bad to me...

the T400 R's are showing as 1989-1990, could it be an MOT tester misreading a log book and classing the cars as tasmin 400 (400se wedge)?

98 Failed from what I'm reading...Figures look OK to me..Sags obviously only 2 early ones (2005 ?) required MOTs..T350 and T400 have earlier dates that T cars so guess they are wedges....Very interesting, but I wonder how garages stick another car on for the emmision tests

Is it just me, or does anyone else consider a 1 in 5 MOT failure rate rather damning of how well the cars are looked after?

Well the Toyota Avensis (I'm sure many non-TVR'ers would say a reliable car).....
and look it comes out at 24.5%

I was alarmed at my 1998 BMW 328i MOT failures 2,685 passed but 1,428 failed (1,210 were because of brakes!!!), had my brake pipes replaced last year.
By comparison TVRs are a lot safer than other cars.... Drivers view of the road is a strange failure. .. Is that obstructions in the windowscreen ??? or a dirty screen ??? or does the driver need a cushion ?
