Avon ZZ3's any good?
Discussion
well the rear tyres on my bmw are getting bald (almost off the markers) which is making this snow/ice driving very hard. so ive been looking at what to buy.
now i don't have lots of money to spend on them, i certainly dont have £200+ per tyre for the michelins, but i wan't a decent tyre that will perform on dry/wet roads aswell as the odd trackday.
now ive come accross the avon ZZ3's that are £98 each from camskil in my size (255/35/18)
so what are these like? anyone got/tried them?
or should i pay the extra £40 per tyre on something like toyo's?
cheers

I've had Avon ZZ3's on my last 2 E30s (swapped the wheels over when i wrote the old one off ) and i've never had a problem with them.
Odviously they're not very good with snow till you get moving. But for wet weather / dry weather use, they are quite good and last well considering they're quite a soft compound of rubber.

I wouldn't recommend them to my worst enemy.
I'd go for Kumho Ecsta Sport KU31, Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta, Falken FK452, or Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric.
I'd try getting prices from more than one place too, as I've seen Camskill doing great prices on one tyre but being way out on another (same goes for every other tyre dealer of course).
I normally shop around at:

I've got them and I'm fairly happy with them. I'd get them again as the grip the give at the price seems really good. They've worn alright too.
In the snow they've been absolutely pants though. Probably not just down to the tyres though as it's around 300bhp through the front wheels with an auto gearbox - not the best combo!!

Great advice as usual from mmm-five. Worth checking out his suggestions.I'd go for Kumho Ecsta Sport KU31, Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta, Falken FK452, or Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric.

I've got Vredestein Ultrac Sessantas all round on my Focus and the front two very nearly need replacing 5k miles later. The rears don't look like they're masses better either. They grip great, but that's painfully quick to need replacing at £450 a set. I've haven't taken traction control off either!
hmm, so they are an okish tyre.
the falken 452's are £103 each, would this be a better tyre then, as pleanty of people on here seem to recomend them?
just i had some falkens on my corsa (not sure which ones) and i was not that impressed with them, but that was a while ago.
i have previously gone for either eagle f1's or toyo T1R's since which have both been really good tyres, but they are just so expensive in 18".
so do you think i should give the falkens ago? or is there anything else in my size for around £100?
