Due to everybody's monitor and resolution being different, I wouldn't have thought so...

In essence, there is no limit to the number of characters that can be displayed, which means there is no edge over there ------>

For example, if you took out all the spaces and formatting of this (or any) text, you'd end up with one single (very long) line of text.....

Erm, in a word, yeah... But I chose to complicate matters further with my long winded reply... One of those days I guess!!

Only thing I can think of is so that the site looks good on all monitor sizes and resolutions, unlike some, especially when viewed on mobile devices like netbooks etc.

I have a Nokia N800, which has a (approx) 8in screen and a resolution of 640x480, and on some sites i have to scroll left to right as they are set up for 1024x768, whereas on my PC with 1280x1024, sites configured to 800x600 just has massive margins down either side...

Not quite true, there's a margin over there, ofcourse there is.

In HTML there's different alignment settings, Left, Center, Right. There's just no option in this forum software to center align.

If you use [rthumb ] tag, then it right aligns.

So then is there a way to force text or an image a set number of pixels/points from the left?

[rthumb ] doesn't seem to work.(unless I've done something wrong)

It is possible for us to create a formatting code which will centre an image, but (and forgive me if I'm being stupid) why would you want to centre an image?
