We are now running at 4 weeks since the bin men were round our way for the main bin. Has anyone else had the pleasure of a visit by them recently?

Nope - ours won't come down the roads bcos they are too icy but won't contact the county council (who have the responsibility to sort).......

But, they have set up a mobile collection point in the middle of our 'Village' - open 9:30am to 2:30pm - erm everyone is at work then and I can't get a dustbin in my car!!!!!

I called the council to ask them to try and sort something else out like a collection at the end of each road - the woman said I had some very good points but they would do nothing about it, and touch censored basically......

So if this cold weather continues, our houses are going to be mini waste dumps....surely there comes a point when they need to do something about this.

Are the bin men also gritting roads or off work watching tv? Am thinking if we are going for this whole climate change thing, it might be my retirement career of choice smile

The bin men didn't need to empty our recycling bins this morning. They're all in a heap in the corner of the estate, and everyone's recycling is blowing down the main road. It's somewhat windy here.

Bin trucks and operators don't like ice. Imagine trying to pull a heavy wheely bin on ice and hook it up to a truck slowly going sideways towards someones parked car... That's basically the excuse around here.

Now I'd happily walk my bin the 50yds to the main road which is gritted....but it'd get stolen (happens a lot anyway never mind when it's away from the house), and I bet they do that road on a different day so can't take ours as well.

Add in to that that Severn Trent have been working on the entrance to our road and theres not quite enough space to get a Vectra in and out without "pushing" the plastic barriers.... It may be some time before our bin is collected.

Wonder if we'll get any discount off our council tax due to the lack of sevices of the last weeks?

Be interesting to see if our recycling is collected today as it wasn't last week.
Tomorrow is bin day, that'll be interesting.

So I'll just drive to the local tip sorry recycling centre, oh well bless me that's closed as well. Huge mountain of stuff outside that I suspect will produce a load of CCTV authenticated FPNs for fly tipping.

You couldn't make it up.

Phah, discount? Come on, they will be putting it up because of all of the 'danger money' they have to pay to get people to work during winter. I mean, its not as if this has happened before, or has it and it happens every flippin' year?

hehe

Not a chance - I know this as I asked about 10 years ago when I first moved into my new build house - I was one of only 5 houses occupied at first - the council were quick to take my council tax but would not collect the bin and then only once a month (weekly service). I complained to the council and was told that non-provision of a service is not grounds for a discount.

So basically, the council can do censored all and they still get to charge you council tax.

Mine didn't arrive last week, the lane I live on had a couple of inches of snow on it, obviously a bit much for these big burly men!

not been seen here in East Herts for a good while, yet my trade waste bin go emptied on Monday on schedule, the dust carts look the same to me yet he made it around. Now the recycle bins are due this week so now the street is cluttered with bins, box's and bags.

Perhaps bucking the trend here, but they came round and emptied the bins and recycling on New Years Day here - I was pleasantly surprised!

Yes and No, they came to take away an old fridge for us yesterday that we had requested. The recycling collection wasn't taken last week. We were due a general waste collection today but we appear to have been missed.

I have smile
They were due a day late but when I saw the bags being piled up on a Weds (usual collection)I put mine out.
There was a tidyup collection the next day (as advertised)
