I think the problem is obvious smile

I've also tried umbrellas / softboxes / bare flash bounced all with the same results. At macro distances the eye reflects way too much.

The only success I've had is by trying to keep all the ringflash inside the pupil then photoshopping it out. Works great on humans, who have round pupils, but a kittys eyes are a little harder.

Any suggestions?

You should be able to photoshop that no problem wink

Alternatively, cheat and replace the pupil tongue out

...and more seriously: Can you not use a big reflector to get enough light bounced onto the subject?

I tried using the wall with bounce flash but I just ended up with the wall in the eye, along with an ugly outline of me!
