Electrical Gremlins - Help Needed !

Hi Guys
The rebuild is almost there now apart from one or two electrical problems that I need your help with.
1. The main beam and reversing lights work, but I have no head or side lights, no brake lights and no indicators. The two led`s on the light switch and also the fog light switch are working.
2. The drivers door window is not working via the switch. The window motor works when powered externally but does not work off the switch.
3. Neither window drops when the door release is pressed but the passenger window drops as it should when the door contol box is disconnected and then reconnected. It then does not go back up when the door is closed. It also does not drop for a second time if the window is raised via the switch and then the door release button is pressed again.

Any help or ideas would be very much appreciated so I can get her tested and ready for the first drive !!

1 On the Tam Brake light and reverse light share the same fuse (7.5a #38) There is a micro switch on the brake pedal remove the metal plate over the peadals it's a big blue switch easy to spot. Bridge it out and have a look if the brake lights work?. Fuses 40&41 are side lights & fuse 10 is dip beam. Fuse 6 OR 31 is for the indicators. Relay 52 is dip beam & 32 is for the indicators

2 might be the button on the mirror. Cheap to replace. I found water in mine as the little rubber cover was not fitted correct. It has a lip that seals the button.

3 Could be faulty door ecu or as mentioned before, remove the plate over the door lock, remove lock and bridge out the micro switch (cut it off and just short it out, you can re-attach it on bullets). If the window moves as you make/break the wire its the micro switch.

Doors/windows - sounds like it's probably not this simple, but an easy check to try first is that the windows need to 'set' their correct closed position, which they sometimes 'forget'.

Put both windows down, then with the doors shut set the alarm. The windows will go up until they can't go further, which re-sets their closed position.

Thanks for the help guys. I`m sure the fuses are ok but wouldn`t hurt to change them anyway.

Hi Guys
Tried everything that was suggested but still no luck.
I have replaced one Door Control Unit with a brand new one from Clever Trevor. Both Doors/Windows are now doing the following.
1. Both windows now work fine from the window switches.
2. After fitting the Door Control Boxes, both windows drop slightly on the first press of the door opening buttons. Neither will raise when the doors are closed, but will raise via window switches. I have cut out the micro switch behing the drivers door lock plate and joined them. The window still does not raise. Interior light does not come on when doors are open and yet works on it`s switch.
3. Once raised, neither will drop upon depression of the door opening buttons, unless the Door Control Units are unplugged and refitted.
4. Alarm sets ( no bleep ) but doors can still be opened via Door opening buttons
5. Windows do not raise when alarm is set.

Any further help would be much appreciated guys. I am so close now it`s killing me !!!

Wow! I'll bet you must almost be bald by now! I'd be tearing my hair out too!

When you shorted out the driver's side microswitch, did the window raise initially then not afterwards? You could always try replacing the microswitches with these http://uk.rs-online.com/web/search/searchBrowseAct... relatively inexpensive and easy to do (I've done our passenger-side).

Just a thought, but have you tried unplugging the alarm ECU to reset it?

Sorry if you've done this already, just throwing some ideas!

There was no movement at all on the windows when I put the wires together from the micro switches.

Hmmm, weird one. Have you tried putting a Fluke across the microswitch wires to see if there's a voltage present? Only thing after that really would be to to point to point testing of the cables to determine if there are any faults in the loom.

You do know that the door needs to be closed for the window to raise at all? It will go down, but not up until the door is closed.

If he's triggering the microswitch (or effectively shorting it out) in the door catch the door doesn't need to be closed. You can trigger it with a screwdriver quite easily.
