Currently Insured with Hagerty (Allianz).

2003 T350. 5,000 mile per annum. Gone up from £448 to £584. Thats a 30% increase?

Any thoughts on other brokers to try?

Cheers. BB.

I've just started a policy with Haggerty for £440.00, granted a slightly older car, but still would have thought that would make that much difference.

Is that on 5,000 per annum? The latest quote is £584 for 5,000 miles on car value of £17k.

I did have a total loss in Nov 2008, but I renewed my policy after that smash and took the 'hit' on increased permium then.

At the risk of a serious flaming, I wonder to what extent the insurers are going to raise premiums this year to counteract the effect of all of the claims relating to damage or injury caused by Tiv drivers using their vehicles in the recent appalling weather conditions. It'sall very well saying I've got a TVR and I'm damn well going to drive it come what may, but if it all goes wrong, we all end up paying.

Have you called them and asked them to see if they can do better?

I've always had great service and prices from A Manning in Henley. Obviously rates very depending on form and postcode (maybe your postcode 'became' more risky).

No joy at all with Manning. They just edged about and wanted to know what I was paying. In the end I couldnt be bothered buggering around with them.

To be honest Hagerty have been really good in all previous dealings and I would like to stay with them....£580 though!

Compaired to the other cars on the road the TVR's must be a small percentage - I suspect a few knocks though, however the majority of claims surely must be made up of the other cars / vans / lorries etc???

I've a few months before I have to renew again and I suspect the premium will rise when I do, last year my renewal went up...

I've got a good quote from Manning on the Griff - no one could get within £100 of them.

As a seperate issue, does anyone ever consider the value and the type of car they're insuring? Regardless of how old you are, £500 to insure a £15k ish car with huge performance and no driver aids/safety features is not unreasonable. That means the insurance premium is 3.3% of the value of the car. How much were you expecting it to cost? Saying "my premium has gone up by x%" is very Daily Mail, but in reality the premium is still very reasonable, especially as the insurance industry has been warning for some time that premiums are going to have to rise. I know insurance is a pain in the arse and kicks the crap out of your current account (particularly at this time of year), but I think a bit of objectivity would help lower a few people's blood pressure (probably unlike this post which will inevitably be taken the wrong way rolleyes).

Yep I think you have a point Sonic, and as I said hagerty are nice people to do business with. If it was £500 then I would probably go with it.....but its much nearer £600. Maybe quoting a 30% increase is very Daily Mail; does it sound better if I say its gone up £175 on last year?.....I think not!
Cheers. BB.

The bad news is you will take the hit on increased premiums on any vehicles you insure over the next 3 or 4 years - sad fact of life.

Of course with this spate of bad weather and the resulting increase in crashes/claims I am sure the insurers are smarting and their wallets won't be bulging with profits quite so much this coming year.

I'm with Mannings for my '06 Tuscan 2 S, unlimited mileage, business class 1, parked on a drive, wife to drive (pmsl, yeah, right!), track days etc etc - all in, around £400 IIRC (it was October I paid for it) - that makes it cheaper than the Merc GL-Class I leased.

And, yes, this is VERY cheap insurance IMHO - ok, I'm 55+, have full protected no claims, no points on my licence, live in a low crime area but for a performance car valued at £30k, it's a damn good deal. In fact, all of the premiums you guys quote are cheap considering.

I'll check on the mileage but mine is restricted to at least 5k if not more...think you may find the loss will still hit you, will check with the misses she works in insurance

I am a senior manager in the insurance sector and all I can say is that as TVR's (and other high performance cars) become more affordable they appeal to those with shall we say 'less driver ability' and claims ratos naturally increase. Premium rises should therefore be no surprise.
