I don't think we've done this one before, as I'm bored of elbow grease I'm considering ditching my trusty Jif and upgrading to some modern cleaning products. Has it been bettered by more modern products for cleaning stubborn greasy stains yet?

I want best of breed so I can have a shiny home for the absolute minimum investment of time and effort biggrin

1) Jif

3) Mr Muscle Glass Cleaner (for the hob)

2) Mr Muscle Limescale Remover

4) Pledge

That's about it at Bloke Hall, ever since the staff left...

Domestic staff, that's what you want.

You just need to be sensitive to the territorial aspects - asking the Head Groom to supervise a task usually in the domain of the Head Butler can cause no end of trouble, I can tell you.

Waitrose own brand Cucumber & Aloe washing up liquid (although it looks like they've recently changed it to Cucumber & Basil - smells the same though)

Oven Pride - actually works really well - wouldn't use anything else (though that said, I'd give the Lakeland oven cleaner a go )

Flash Bathroom - cleans well and smells good

Cillit Bang Stain & Drain - cleans and unclogs plugholes - not seen it in a while though and I think it's been replaced by something else which is very different.

The rest just gets bought depending on what's on special offer.

I prefer the Kumquat & Avocado which has the added advantage that you can use it as a salad dressing.

Personally I am fan of the ecover range, I don't really like the overpowering chemical smell you get with some of the other cleaners.

Magic Eraser. Cleans more or less everything with just water. Also fantastic for cleaning your leather steering wheel when used carefully.

There is a cupboard full of cleaning products in this house and to be honest I think they are very much of a muchness.

Fairy Power Spray is very good for burnt on food stuffs.

Dettox for wiping down food prep surfaces.

Then the rest of the cupboard is made up of products from the Mr Muscle and Cillit Bang ranges.

I am informed by the domestic staff that the suggestions below do actually work

use a liquid based glass cleaner to finish stainless steel hobs once you get all the cr*p off, stops the streaky lines

glass shower panels and doors come up fine with a limescale based cleaner

car windscreens (inside) come up better if washed with a vineger and warm water prewash before using glass cleaner

That's where I'm going wrong; I use Morrison's Cheese & Onion. Pre-rinse with Apricot Scrub, then a good once-over down with the cheese and onion, and finally into the washing machine for a quick rinse on High. Iron the plates flat (wool setting of course) and hang to dry, gas mark 5 smile

Did I get the job?

Or you can stick a chisel into an old car battery, much as Friday would idly stab a fallen coconut, and extract the sulphuric acid within - now that shifts limescale - and clothes - and skin...
