Diffusers - any point?

I bought a TAT shorty diffuser for my VX put it one and it looks good but I'm sure it doesn't really do anything. As its a bit heavier than the stock one and less weight at the backs better would it be a beneficial mod to go back to stock do you think? They really are just cosmetic?

That one looks nice but that's probably all it does!
Its too far away from the ground (and probably too small) to have any real effect (look at racing cars and you'll get the idea). It may help to clean up air flow out from out of under the car but I'd doubt you'd notice if you took it off.
(I'm not an aerodynamists btw - any limited knowledge I have in that area is restricted to boat sails!.)
