Peugeot 307 - tailgate won't open/car won't lock
Discussion
Folks,
Got a bit of an issue with the Mrs 307 (06-plate hatchback, 1.6S Auto).
Took it out today and the front windscreen washers were not working. Mrs said they have not been working for a few days, I assumed the bottle/tubes would be iced up so when we got to our destination I poured the contents of a recently-boiled kettle into the bottle and after 10-15mins the washers were still not working.
For some reason the Mrs thought it would be a good idea to keep the handbook, containing the list & location of the fuses, in the house - which we were now 30-odd miles away from.
Before I touched ANYTHING else on the car I noticed it wouldn't lock. When I press the keyfob button the car would lock itself and immediately open again. I then noticed the tailgate release handle wouldn't work (it's electronic) AND the rear wiper was no longer working. All had been working 20 minutes previously. The car locks/opens itself too when I use the key in the drivers door lock.
I then managed to locate a 10A fuse under the bonnet that had blown - I replaced this and hey presto the front windscreen washers were working again, so that problem was solved.
I have checked every single other fuse under the bonnet and behind the dash and they all appear to be fine (checked in the dark, with a torch and freezing cold fingers though so can't be 100% certain). I mamaged to open the tailgate from the inside and I checked to see if there was anything obvious in & around the boot but there isn't.
So - over to you guys - any ideas? Pure coincedence that the rear wiper/tailgate release/central locking packed up around the same time as the front washers? Or somehow related?
I'm fairly confident the locking/unlocking is related to the tailgate release not working but where does the rear window wiper fault come in? Also, the rear window washer is not working either.
I'm looking at a bill next week aren't I?

Some Rovers have problems where rubber shroud carrying the wires from the body to the tailgate wears through, allowing the wires to be chafed. Could it be this?

This happens on my car if one of the doors is not shut properly (e.g. on the 'first' catch)Edited by Platinum on Saturday 9th January 19:41
probably the switch in the tailgate lock gone.
So the BCM (Body Control Module) thinks that the boot is open. That way it will lock the car but instantly unlock it because it thinks the boot is open. That will also explain why the boot will not open electronically because it thinks that it's already open so won't fire the motor.
Might be something silly like the switch freezing in position, might be something like a new lock mechanism. I've found both to be the reason for similar faults.

<sigh>
Popped my head out the front door half an hour ago and pressed the keyfob button - same as last night. Locks then unlocks itself, so I then go & get myself all wrapped up warm (i.e. out of my pyjamas) and trek out to the hut to get the tools.
Walk out the front door and press the keyfob button again - car locks itself and stays locked.
Bloody thing is all back to normal again. Window wiper on rear screen working, washers on rear screen working, boot opening via the handle, central locking all ok.
Just about managed to stop myself hitting the car with a tree branch John Cleese-style.

Hello, this has also happened to mine in the last ouple of days. I find the electrics on this diabolical! I was driving the other day when all of a sudden out of the blue the warning light comes on and I get a message saying boot is open. Bearing in mind I'd been driving for 30 mins already. The boot had not been touched. My rear washer also wasn't working, the car would not lock because is thinks the boot is open. I pulled over to check only it's far from open, it's jammed shut and no way of opening it. This has only recently started to happen, but notice it happens when it's been raining. So I'm guessing water is getting into the electrics somewhere all of sudden. Don't know if you have noticed a pattern? I have no idea what to do next, as the next day when it was dry, the car opened and locked fine.
i have the same problem with my 307 ,no boot open ,no rear wiper working i tried a new lock as well that did not work .Behind the glove box cover there are loads of wires i moved them about and now everything works ok .there must be a lose wire there ,but there are so many wires there i dont know what on but it works for now
