I took the plunge and bought a 5D MkII and what impressive low light beast it is!

My main problem is going full frame is putting my lens collection in a whole new perspective! smile

I have the 24-70L which although nice and wide at the wide end now I feel isn't quite long enough at 70mm although I think I'll keep it as it's a peach of a lens.

I also have the nifty 50mm F1.8 which is what it is so no major issues.

My main problems are my 10-22 EFS ultra wide angle lens will of course not fit the full frame body. I will be keeping my 400D when I don't want to cover a £1700 camera in beer etc.. I love the lens and my dilemma is should I chop it in for the 17-40L ? Will it be wide enough? I loved the 10-22 at 10mm. the 16-35 F2.8 looks great but a little on the pricey side.

I also have a cheap Tamron 70 - 300 but I think the camera deserves something a little better. Obvious choice is the 70 - 200L but I think it may be a little short especially on the full frame.

Anyone had any similiar conundrums?

70-200 will take a 1.4 or 2x extender don't forget smile If you went that way then you'd be better getting the F2.8 not the F4.

Well 17mm on the 5D equates to 10.6mm on the 400d, so I don't think you'll notice much of a difference.

For the Ultra wide, you have 2 choices, 2 lenses (10-22 + 17-40) or something like the sigma 12-24 full trame (which has quite variable quality).

For me if I was taking out a camera to the pub I'd take a P&S and leave the DSLR at home if it was going to be that risky.

And even if I did... I'd do this...

Sell the 10-22 and buy a 17-40L. This is all you need for landscapes on the 5D, its good from f4. If you realy realy need 2.8 then get the 16-35 otherwise it has no advantage.

Buy a 18-55IS for the 400D and use that as the pub lens.

For long the 70-200's are great , but if you dont need fast look at the 100-400L

Congratulations on your 5Dmk2 purchase - it is an excellent camera, especially for landscapes.
I have the canon 10-22 also, and when I added a 5Dmk2 to my collection I decided on the 16-35L. It might be expensive but lenses tend to hold their value.

Edit - don't chop the 10-22 in! It's one of the best (if not the best wide angle), so hang onto it if you can.

I am in the same boat as I sit here reading the 5d manual, I went for the 24-70 2.8 yes it is a bit short but ill get used too it, I do wonder if I should have gone for the 24-105 one, that said I do like to have a fast lenses, this is due to old school use like i was chuffed having a 50mm 1.4 once

for pub use I should just get a good compact

thanks for the replies. I'd love the F2.8 70 - 200 but it takes it into a rather pricey territory especially and then there's the price of the extender.

I'd love to hang onto the 10-22 but again not sure I can afford to do that and stump up the monies for the 17-40...

the 24-70 is the f2.8L? Fancy a swap for the 24-135 f4 L IS I have?
