Ta for keeping me warm without heating this winter PHers!
Discussion
My apartment is in the roof void of an 1887 mansion - it's huge but cheap, and there is a good reason for this - it is full of character!
Features of this character include a complete lack of thermal insulation, s
te old radiators and a couple of archaic gas fires. It takes forever to get warm and I'm starting to worry that I may be the cause of this Gas Balance running out of it gas or whatever it is called problem. Potentially very expensive.
So the heating is off, and I'm now lying in bed, with 2 duvets, a thick throw, PJs, socks and housecoat. The only source of heat is one my daft overpowered laptop which will happily burn the skin off your legs whist making you impotent at the same time.
So technically all you PHers are keeping warm! Cheers.

IF it's a large space I'd recommend a radiant heater as being the most cost effective electric heat source.

Is there any insulation between your flat and the one below? If there is I'd be pulling up the floorboards and ripping it out - Why pay to heat your flat when the neighbours will do it for you ?
Because then you'd be able to hear every time they.... do anything.
d (bit like me then!) and never has his heating on!
