If you buy a brand new UK camera on ebay does it affect your warranty?

I guess it would depend on:

a) the location of the supplier (assumed to be UK)

b) supplier private individual or business

c) status of supplier if a business (official dealer or not)

To be super-sure you could contact Nikon and ask them if eBay seller 'xxxxxx' is genuine. There's no reason why genuine dealers can't use eBay; Aspens of Hereford sell tons of Manfrotto kit that way.

It's an individual's company who sells mainly computer stuff but has sold canons before with good feedback.

Good feedback merely means he shipped the stuff and it worked - it's no measure of after-sales service if it goes pop... if warranty is more important than pure price to you then try somewhere like www.warehouseexpress.co.uk

You need to know if this is UK supplied by canon or a grey market import. If the later your warranty is with the seller not canon UK. Most o fthe cheapest new cameras are imports, and will state somewhere the warranty is with the seller.

It's the UK 450 not the rebel.

I think canon only care if you have a valid clean warrenty card for the area you are in (for bodies/cameras).

Canon len's have international warrenties.

AFAIK they are called 450 in other places as well, such as Hong Kong - which is where most of the grey imports come from.

If you do a receipt, it will be canon warranty. Canon provides warranty service if you have two things: canon warranty card (it is inside the box) and receipt from shop where camera serial number is written.

I don't know if Canon serial numbers are area-specific like Nikon, but UK-spec Nikons have serial numbers beginning with an 8. Anything else and it's a grey import.
