Hello there,

Silly one but is there any convention as to where one puts the doorbell (ie left or right and at what height)?

Illustration below. I favour right, reasoning that most people are right handed. However the handle is on the left. BUT also, there is a light to the right. It is a wireless one, so no technical reason why it is better on one side than the other.

HELP!

Why is there a door bell on your garage?

put it on right, the light on the garage will help to see it and as you say right handed people are the majority

Blimey, he goes to all that trouble doing that fantastic drawing complete with yellow light beams and everything and you go and hurt his feelings like that wink.

P.S. I go with right positioning. smile

On the right, as most people are right handed. The handle may be on the left but I'm pretty sure most people operate it using their right hand.

Left hand side is best, yes most people are right handed therfore normally have the car keys in that hand when calling wink I know this from a profesional level. Most bells i see are on the left, another good place is in the middle of the door.

It may be a case of not left vs right, but 'opening side'. Maybe you need to start a poll to find out?

This.

As a daily user of a variety of door bells, I tend to instinctivelt look at the frame on the side of the handle.

Well, we went with the left in the end (opposite side to hinges). We have a spare one for the back door so might mount one on both sides and note the one which is most popular...

Sad isn't it?!

The car rings the doorbell so the garage can open up and let it in.

Er no... that's a light... obvious surely!

To be honest, I never thought anyone would get that excited about doorbells.

Certainly not enough to spend £20+ on one, anyway!

Put it on the inside of the door, that'll keep people guessing.

I've got a great door bell. I've had it for years. Never failed me, does variable volumes, different ringers, it's fantastic.

It's my hand.
