Kumho vs Goodyears (again!) - or is it just me?

I replaced my worn Goodyear F1s a few months ago, with kumhos medium compound- mainly as they were half the price of the goodyears, but also because they were a great dry grip tyre (I thought!)

I have noticed that when cold, they seem to be like slicks on ice! I tried to get out of my garage across some damp grass, and couldnt get out the garden (which has a bit of a slope) - never had that problem with the goodyears..... also a while back tried some drag racing - at the same place I ran 12.3secs, could only get 13.7 secs as I have wheel spin in first/second - again unlike the goodyears which gripped a lot more.

So is it just me or do these tyres need to be (very) warm before they perform? or were the goodyears just so much better?

I have a similar problem with the Toyo's on my Cerbera. They are very good and predictable in the dry, warm weather but at this time of the year I can get wheel spin in 3rd on a "dry" road in a straight line. The tyres never seem to get up to their operating temperature at this time of the year.

Toyo do warn drivers in their blurb that these tyres are not suitable for use below 10 deg C (if I remember correctly). Kumhos are probably similar.

I found that the Fioranos were excellent road tyres and that the steering was less nervous with reduced kickback down country lanes. The problem with the V70A was that they had barely road legal tread depth when new - getting nicked for 4 illegal tyres is not on my list of things to do. On a slightly frosty Octobers morning at North Weald the Kumhos were like driving on greased eels - excellent when warm.

Have messed about with R888s on a turbobarge in winter and they are OK - not as good as PS2 - but its cold and theres not much grip........

The R888 experience on the Ult is excellent with astonishingly low wear. It will be interesting to do a proper back to back test against V70A in the spring.
