Which is the sharper/better lens of these two? Is the Sigma really worth £350 more? I realise its a faster f2.8 aperture but rarely end up there preferring f5.6-f8ish. I've read good tests on the Nikon and it has VR too. The Sigma has inconsistent test reports and quality is a gamble.

What do you guys think?

Stop titting about and buy the Sigma yes

If it's a crapper, get it replaced (Sigma are good at this, they've had practice)

Got one off ebay for £330 incl postage. its good but not as sharp as my Nikon 18-105. I spent some time last night fine-tuning its focus on my D300s - I'll see if that improves it real world later.

Shame Nikon don't do one with VR

[stupid question]How do you "fine-tune a lens focus"?[/stupid question]

You can only do it with the latest high-end cameras. It'll be in the menu somewhere.

Thanks for that, only have a 350D won't have to worry about that for a few years yet.

Real world later, well Albert Dock anyway, its as sharp as a sharp thing; sharply defined eyelashes at 3m. biggrin
