Copying data onto a new Wii

In a madcap last minute standing at the till decision I decided to buy one of those new black Wiis. I've had my white one since launch day, but had wanted a black one since I saw the first Nintendo Revolution concept.
White one is going to go to my brother, but I want to copy all my saved games and Virtual Console purchases across. I've done all the data management stuff on the old one, backed it up onto the SD card, but some games won't copy across. Am I going to lose all the stuff I bought just because I want to change consoles?

I think so.

Otherwise one person could just pass their SD card around and it would be free VC games for everyone

As far as Nintendo is concerned the new Wii has a separate owner who hasn't paid for the VC games

I don't think there is any way to sign in to the VC shop on a separate machine (like you can for itunes)

But surely if I link my VC account to this new Wii (which I have done, and it said that would overwrite the link on the old system) then it knows who I am so I can play the stuff I paid for?

What would happen if the original Wii broke or was stolen? Would I have to pay for all the content again? This is an absolute joke.

You should stick it to them! Show them you won't be screwerd over! Install the Homebrew Channel and softmod it to play games from a USB drive!

Yes, I have sent them an email, but no response as yet, and I very much doubt I'll get a satisfactory one.

Do report back how you get on, as I'm considering doing exactly the same... (all for the colour, eh?!)
But will reconsider if I can't get what I've paid for from the old console to a new one!

After getting no reply as yet to my email, I just called them. Slow as hell menu system, but eventually got through to a meatbag, who advised me that this can only be done by the service centre themselves. They are sending me out a Freepost label, I have to send both consoles back to them, they transfer all the stuff across, and send them back to me. I presume they will wipe the "old" one, although they didn't say as much.
So, fairly inconvenient, but I guess it stops people freeloading, and they were very helpful on the phone. Will let you know how long the process takes!

I can't believe they can't do it by a code or some such while you're on the phone... Surely that'd be easier than getting you to send both consoles!!
