Just a thought.Instead of spending loads on new ecus, exhausts and other tuning aids would you be better off just ditching all the unnecessary equipment when tuning a modern car? I reckon you could lose 100kgs quite easily just by ditching the back seat, sound deadening and all those electric motors.Hey presto an 8% improvement in the power to weight ratio which would otherwise cost hundreds to achieve!

Most front seats weigh a ton too. Best to get carbon fiber ones.

Most definitely.

My Golf GTi started life at about 140BHP and 850KG.

I spent a fortune on it raising the BHP to 147, which made little difference.

But at the same time I removed;

Heater (full of water, weighs a ton)
All sound deadening
Rear wiper and wash
Rear tailgate lock and striker
Front washer bottle and motor (if you don't need an MOT)
Tailgate strut
Any underseal
Battery (replaced with red top)
Roof lining
Any un-required trim whatsoever
Most of the dashboard (as allowed by the regs)

and

Replaced remote mirrors with standard
Changed door cards to ones without handles/pockets

etc etc.

Resultant new weight of 790 KG gained me more power to weight gain than the engine work.

It is utterly pointless to, say, buy a K&N filter for your car (gaining 1BHP if you're lucky) then drive around all the time with the petrol tank full.

Buy a load of that carbon fibre film and stick over everything "for that lightweight racing look" (as it says in the DT catalogue)
