Changing Speed Six manifold advice..

Hi Guys,

I have a small split on my exhaust manifold and I'm thinking I'll change it rather than get it welded, and there's a pair for sale in the classifieds which might do the job.

So is there any advice for me before I remove them. Is it a job for a novice?,

It's the manifold nearest the front of the car which I need to replace the rear manifold is ok.

No tips on actual fitment, but it might be worth thinking about getting them ceramic coated before fitting them? Should bring engine bay temps down a bit and is supposed to give better performance.

If you can get at it I would TIG weld it.

Manifolds are put on before engine is fitted, and most experienced would remove engine to replace manifolds.

Can be done though in situ but loads of fiddling and bruised knuckles

I would agree with Graham,taking the manifolds off is a b4stard of a job.It took me about 2hrs to get them off and about 3hrs to put them back on.The front one is easier to remove,but I seem to remember the rear one has to come off first,this will make you swear like you have never sworn before and probably loose a pint or two of blood.I would check the diameter of the mounting ring for the cat,from what I remember there are two different sizes.Regards,Steve.

Ok guys, thanks for your advice.

I was originally going to get it welded but when I saw there was a pair for sale I thought it would be better to replace them.

But i'll take your advice and get it welded. It looks fairly easy to get at as it is the front manifold so shouldn't be to difficult or expensive.
