Getting served
Discussion
Spurred on by the leaving without paying thread, i pondered people's position on this.
I was in a bar in Guildford recently when a little twunt barged in and got served ahead of me, then knowingly tried to get his mate served next despite many people, including myself being before him.
Have we lost the art of manners? Is it just a free for all and we get served as soon as we can and f
k everyone else?
In my opinion, if you know the order of service then go with it, even if the bar staff acknowledge you first. Over to you ...

There is a vast difference between a country pub and a bar in a busy town. The issue being that these bars contain a large number of binge drinking
s, who don't seem to understand manners or any type of social rules at all.
For these reasons, I still stick to drinking in the country pubs where people drink real ale and will argue over who was before them rather than who pushed in.

a good barman should know the order in which customers should be served
if they don't a quiet word usually sorts it
True, but good bar staff seem a little scarce of late in my experience.if they don't a quiet word usually sorts it

To be honest i'm not an ale drinker and i prefer places with a bit more going on than locals arguing over who has the fittest dog ...For these reasons, I still stick to drinking in the country pubs where people drink real ale and will argue over who was before them rather than who pushed in.

Yes mods, what's that all about?
It's pretty general discussion of people's manners and approach to this queing situation than food and drink specificly.
Surely the leaving without paying thread should be in speed, plod and law in that case
I wonder if you had been queuing in a strip club, this would have surfaced in "scale models" ?It's pretty general discussion of people's manners and approach to this queing situation than food and drink specificly.

At 6'5 I just find the funny side of it when some little twerp pushes in front - anyone would be doing well to be able to lean over the bar further than me. Don't tend to see the funny side when they do it to someone more polite than me though.
It comes as a shock these days when people are kind enough to tell the bar staff someone was there before them, though someone even let me in front of them in Sainsburys the other day who'd seen I had a sandwich and they had a trolley full, so manners aren't quite consigned to history books just yet.

To be fair, I find that there are more occasions that someone nods to the barman that I was first then times that someone blatantly pushes in.
When it does happen (and I remember there was one time when someone did it in the most arrogant and aggressive way) it is very infuriating. This was in one of the cokehead and minor celeb dens in Soho though.

The idea is to remove all the threads out of 'the lounge' so it dies. It's pretty general discussion of people's manners and approach to this queing situation than food and drink specificly.

These kinds make me laugh on the bar..
I always make sure I serve them last and serve the rest of the people around them first, then will probably do something boring like fill the ice wells, then I'll serve them.
Another that gets me is people waving money across the bar.. They get served last too

Hang on, nope not with you

I've recently got into the habit in supermarkets of allowing the person behind to go in front of me if they are holding one or two items (three is the limit
) and I have a basketful or a trolley. The look of bemusement on their face is matched by the warm fuzzy feeling I get in return. . .
) and I have a basketful or a trolley. The look of bemusement on their face is matched by the warm fuzzy feeling I get in return. . .In most cases it is usually down to an inexperienced barman working in a very busy environment like a busy bar or club where the emphasis isn't on 'fairness' or 'manners' but banging out drinks as quickly as possible to the next person they see. I tend to avoid these places like the plague these days and frankly would rather pay extra to drink in places that are less busy and aren't full of drunk kids, students and dregs who are devoid of manners.
While I don't mind waiting my turn to be served, what does annoy me is being stood there like sardines, waiting endlessly, being pushed about and surrounded by drunken idiots who have already had enough while I wait for a drink served in a warm plastic glass. Frankly I don't have the patience to frequent these places.
We were out a couple of months ago and popped into a bar where a mate was DJing. 15 minutes later we were still waiting to get to the bar, patiently, while hoards of students were pushing in. I turned round in the end and said we were going elsewhere. There is no point kicking off as it won't get you anywhere. The place was full of ponces in cashmere jumpers buying rounds on their credit cards and pretending they were doing well to impress their girlfriends. You know the places. I had the last laugh when a couple of them pushed in, bought a round of vodka red bull and tried to leave the bar with a tray only to have some drunk tart knock the lot on the floor. I did have a chuckle at their expense as I left. I also made a point of advising the doormen what I thought of the bar and the fact that we wouldn't be back, but what do they care...

I used to do the same when I worked in a bar - it's amazing how many random jobs you can find if someone is being a nob! I used to hate it when people leaned over waving their money in my face - I always made a point of serving the quiet ones first.I always make sure I serve them last and serve the rest of the people around them first, then will probably do something boring like fill the ice wells, then I'll serve them.

I remember one night whilst working in a club in Nottingham, some young 'gangsta' type wrestled his way to the front of the packed bar and started shouting at me for a brandy and coke (the pseudo-gangsta drink of choice). He started going mad when I was ignoring him and looked like he'd explode when I said I was going to serve everyone else first - he left saying that he was going to wait for me outside!!
In hindsight I should of nonchalantly rammed a pint glass into his cocky face!!
