In view of the problems I've had with the car after just one month, I was wondering if anyone has purchased an extended warranty for an Elise SC, and how much they paid for it?

Stratstone Lotus have quoted me a frankly unbelievable £800 for just one year's warranty (and not even a Lotus one at that- according to them that would be £1000!)

Is this really what I should expect to pay, and is there anywhere else I can go for a quote in the west Midlands?

Thanks

To be honest you must be very unlucky,i've had mine from new March 08,done 16k miles, its only had a couple of very minor niggles all sorted under warranty.
A friend has an 08 plate SC with no issues either, another with a 40k mile 111R,no problems, another with an 08 plate S with no problems etc etc.

I really would'nt bother with an extended warranty(especially not for £800!!),if you're worried just get an AA parts and labour jobby.

Several debates over warranties over the years and while some people dismiss them as an expensive insurance policy against cataclysmic mechanical failures others can site a raft of instances where they have been invaluable.

For me I decided against it on my Lotus as I believe they are mechanically pretty simple and I can fix most problems myself.

If you are prepared to wield a spanner now and again I’d go with either a cheap third party warranty on drive train and engine then leave everything else down to independents or yourself it they break.

IME experience the most expensive repairs are to the body, replacing aircon on older cars and gearbox issues.

After that everything is pretty straight forward to DIY.

i got an extended warranty with mine and within a year needed a new radiator - all done under warranty - nearly paid for the policy in itself.

each to their own.
